1995 (X300) Jaguar XJ6 Starter Replacement

What is the best way to remove the virtually-impossible-to-get-at bolt securing the top of the starter in order to replace the starter?

Remove the windshield wiper motor for access to the top bolt. Use a 13mm dogbone with a pipe or similar for leverage. They used locktite on the bolts,so it's a bear to get loose. This job is a real P.I.T.A. Good luck.

Try with the car up on a hydraulic lift / ramp at your local friendly quick fit exhaust place. then use several socket set extensions including a socket flex drive (costs about $10). it's designed to be impossible so you have to take it to the Jag dealer at $140/hr. good luck

Hi i have a 1997 3.2 x300 model do i need to drop the front axle to get the top bushes bolt out

As far as I am aware, you need to disconnect strut at bottom (moving any brake pipes first) remove bolts on top of strut (except centre one on strut itself) you should then be able to drop the strut out, replace bush, refit strut securing at top first, then secure bottom of strut and replace any pipes you have moved.
You may have to turn your wheel (brake disc) to get it out and be careful not to damage any collars or sleeves. Hope that helps, Jonjo.

How to remove a starter on a 86 jaguar xj6 vanden plas starter does not function

The starter motor is located on the passenger side ( left ) side of the motor. it is held onto the motor with two bolts. Before starting the removal process you must disconnect the battery by removing the ground lead. Under the car disconnect the battery feed wires on the solonoid mounted on the starter. Also disconnect the white with red tracer wire on the solonoid. This is the wire that comes from the starter relay on the firewall. Remove the upper bolt first. You can get at it from the top of the engine bay and then remove the bottom bolt. This starter is heavy. The starters on the later cars were a lot lighter. The starter will clear the engine. Be sure to test the new starter before you install it. Installation is reverse of the removal.

How do i remove my starter from my jaguar xj6 1990

Unless you have very good and unusual tools don't even attempt it.
There are 2 bolts in very difficult areas to reach, roughly above your feet when you are in driver's seat. One bolt unscrews to the front, the other unscrews to the back. One needs a combination of extensions and swivels to get at and only from being on a lift. The other one needs an extra long open-ended wrench and is only accessible from the top with great difficulty. Then if you can get them both off, remember that you will have to put them back in the same way, after you fight to get the old one out and the new one in while removing and attaching the electrical connections. Its worth an hour's labour to a jag mechanic who has done it many times and he will still curse you out on doing the job.
