I just had the water pump, time belt and new thermostat on my 2002 vue. now the check egine goes on, the rpm and gas gage goes up on and down on its own. also the steering wheel gets real tight the check engine light saids to replace the oxygen sensor which has already been replaced multiple times. could it be the computer of the car?
The code doesn't say that the O2 sensor needs to be replaced, it is telling you the O2 is showing that the fuel system is either to rich, (to much fuel) or to lean (not enough fuel), so the sensor is not the issue, most likely something is either wrong with the fuel injectors such as dirty nozzles or there is a vacuum leak or one of the fuel control sensors like the MAF has a problem, it can and is very difficult to sort this out, the Saturn dealer has the diagnostic equip to get the root cause of the problem, are they the ones who did the work? if not take it to Saturn and even though they cost more they won't spend as much time to find the problem, outside shops can't afford this special testing gear, cost is way to high, about $50,000 for the electronic service bay diagnostic systems Saturn has. One last point the computer or PCM as we call it is very rarely the problem, about 4% of the time in fact, very low failure rate.

First, how many miles are on you 06 Vue... Because what your describing sounds dead on like a water pump/timing belt about to go bad on you. YOUR BEST COURSE OF ACTION is to take it to a garage you trust (not always the dealer) and have them take a listen to it. If it is the water pump or timing belt, have them change both; the only difference in price is for parts---WELL WORTH THE PIECE OF MIND--- knowing that they were just in there and could have done it anyway.
Your 2002 Saturn is likely a 2.2 Ecotec not a 2.4. The lower radiator hose on most cars usually leads to the water pump and the upper hose connects the thermostat housing to the radiator return inlet.
need to know what engine you have? most likely you'll have to remove timing cover as the water pump is driven by the timing belt..while your at it i would HIGHLY recommend replacing the timing belt, timing belt idler pulley and the tensioner pulley..
Remove the thermostat cover bolts from the thermostat housing.
Remove and discard the thermostat housing O-ring.
Thermostat assembly
Twist the water feed pipe while pulling to remove it from the water pump. Remove the water pipe from the water pump assembly.
Remove and discard the seals from the water pipe.
Remove the inner thermostat sleeve.
Remove the thermostat assembly.
To Install:
Install the thermostat cartridge into the thermostat housing while aligning the cartridge tangs up with the thermostat housing bolt holes. This will assure the inner sleeve can be completely installed.
Align and insert the inner sleeve notch into the thermostat housing. If the inner sleeve notch is not properly positioned, the sleeve will not completely seat into the housing.
The water feed pipe seals can be slightly lubricated with silicone gel to aid during installation. Install a new O-ring on the water pipe.
Position the water pipe into the water pump assembly.
Seat the water feed O-ring by pushing and twisting toward the water pump. Take care not to tear or damage the O-ring.
Install the thermostat housing cover to the water pipe. The water feed pipe has a locating tab to assure proper alignment.
Install a new thermostat housing cover seal into the recess groove.
Position the thermostat housing cover into position.
Install the thermostat housing cover bolts and tighten bolts to (89 in-lb 10 Nm).
2006 Saturn Vue with a 3.5L engine V-6, Saturn recommends replacing timing belt every 100,000 miles, also replace water pump, due to it is timing belt driven, this is an interference engine which piston to valve damage will occur in the event of timing belt failure.Hope this was very helpful.
I have a 2002 saturn vue. Same thing..sounded like a jet engine ...loud humming as I accelerated . It got increasingly worse. It turned out to be the front wheel bearings. Replace them, now the noise is half as loud...have to do the rears also! 93,000 miles on it. Also, don't forget to replace the timing belt. It it goes too long and breaks, it will trash the engine...
the water pump is driven by the serpbelt,,it located under the timing belt cover,,,about in the center of the timing belt area,,easy to do,just dont get any coolant on the timing belt,,,if you hav e more than 75k on the car replace the timing belt too before it breaks
