I want to bypass the passkey module - 1991 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Regency

  • Anonymous Mar 14, 2012

I did fix the problem. When I removed the steering wheel and everything beneath it to change the lock cylinder I saw a broken wire leading into the lock cylinder. Where the wire pigtail is plugged into the main harness I could have plugged in a 1100 ohm resistor and made it look like the key was installed all the time.

The system you have is Passkey VATS. On your 91 there are 2 ways to bypass this system. One is a partial bypass that works in certain situations, and another that works in ALL situation. This link explains alot and offers solutions to help you beat this.

I have just recently got a 98 grand prix. When i got it the remote that came with it didnt work, so i replaced the battery and try it, i was able to lock it but not unlock it, and now the alarm is active....

Put key in ignition, turn forward two clicks (to on). Leave for 10 minutes. Then turn key off, then try to start. Did it reset the security?

If you want to disable the security, entirely bypass it and never worry again about passkey and all its problems, there is a firm that sells a module , easily installed, cost is $190 (vs. about $1000 for the dealer to work on and replace expensive parts in the passkey system). The module mimics the passkey system in signals to the computer, allowing the start circuit and ignition circuit to not be interrupted by passkey. The firm is at newrockies.com. Or check this site from a disgruntled Buick owner. It has a link to the newrockies site:
