SOURCE: When and How to check transmission fluid

if it is a manual transmission you have to check it from under the car by opening the fill plug. if fluid starts flowing out your full if not than you need to service it.

if it is an automatic it will be close to the firewall and hard to spot. but it is there. if you have 45,000 miles on it you should have the transmission serviced whether it is an automatic or manual.

SOURCE: cabin filter location mercury mountaineer

There is one for the 2003 Mercury Mountaineer. If you are smellign a "vinegar" odor, mix a solution of 1 part bleach to 3 parts water and pour it down the grid at the base of the windshield. It will take care of the smell.

SOURCE: I want 2 change 2004 mercury mountaineer transmission fluid

The best way to change it is to flush it out You can do it yourself, but I do not recommend. A shop that is good like a Monro or Firestone usually charges about 100 bucks to flush and that includes the fluid. If you do it yourself, you will save about 60 dollars, but you risk damage to your radiator.

you will need a hose and an adapter. you back out the lower, or upper cooler line for your trans, whichever is the easiest to get to, (Some trucks have an auxiliary engine oil cooler, but make sure you are flushing the trans lines) put the adapter into the rad where you removed the line, and put a hose from each one down into a bucket. Have about 14 qt's of ford trans fluid ready. Put the funnel into the trans dip stick, and start the engine. pour the qts into the dipstick tube while the old fluid is pumped into the bucket. When you have about two gallons pumped into the bucket shut the engine off and reattach the line into the radiator. start up the engine and check your level. Fill with additional fluid if needed.

note: some say you should drop the pan. two things, you only change half the fluid when you do it that way, and second if you need to change the filter because it is clogged, it is too late for the transmission. The filter is only there to protect the valve body, not keep the fluid clean.

Hope this helps

Text based help and videos. The best way is to measure what comes out and replace the same quantity. If it has a manual dipstick, you can fill by level once it has warmed up, then turned off and settled.

Got a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer. Did a filter and fluid change but there no fluid in the pan from the drain plug

It sounds like you are emptying one system, but filling up another system. You can probably send a video to the YouTube Channel 'Just Rolled In'.

Both the engine and the transmission have filters and drain plugs and fluid, but your question gives no hints as to which? Broadly speaking, if could also be the fuel tank and filter, or the washer bottle and filter.

How to check and fill transmission. No dipstick

On the transmission pan, you will find a bolt, inside the bolt is a plug. Start the vehicle and remove the plug. Fluid should come out. Drip or very small stream. If it doesn't, you have to add fluid threw that hole until it starts coming out.

My transmission fluid is black as oil and the transmission will not pull?

The transmission is probably toast from overheated fluid (burnt). That is how transmission fluid turns a very dark color.
You should get a second opinion, but I doubt that a drain and refill will restore the transmission.

How do you put tramission fluid into the car - funnell??

There is a Fill Bolt on top of the transmission and a Drain bolt on the bottom of the transmission. Changing the fluid is simply a matter of taking the drain bolt off, letting it drain, putting the drain bolt back on and then filling it via the fill bolt. If you can't get the fill bolt off you will have to use the transmission dipstick tube to fill it which takes a while and requires some creativity. A drain and refill will probably take about 3 quarts of ATF. Make sure you buy the Honda Z1 ATF from a dealer because in my experience honda transmission just don't work right with anything else.

No transmission dipstick 2003 mercury mountaineer

I have recently changed and added fluid to my 2003 Mercury Mountaineer with help from a Chilton manual. None of the answers posted so far are quite correct...and since I researched this for months before finding a proper solution I figured I would let everyone know how to do this.

Tools needed: Mercon V trans fluid, torx head socket to remove trans drain/add plug, an adjustable wrench to loosen the main bolt on the drain/add plug, a pump to add fluid back in, and (if possible) a temp gun like a service station would use. Last, but not least, you will need a special nozel that fits in the bottom of the drain hole to add fluid back in with. (I could only find this at OReilly's. It was a special order from 'OTC' <OTC Part No. 6604>

In my opinion this is a terribly designed transmission. To add, remove, or check fluid follow these steps:

1. Heat fluid to 180 degrees F.
2. Raise entire vehicle using a level to make sure the vehicle is completely level.
3. With foot on break, shift through all gears, place back in park.
4. Go under transmission pan, and by using torx head socket (and PB blaster or you'll break the socket), Loosen the middle plug on the main trans drain plug. (There is a larger bolt head on the drain plug with a smaller plug inside it)
5. Replace center plug with OTC part No 6604.
6. Loosen, (but not all the way) the main bolt plug.
7. Now, this will tell you your fluid level. (Per Chiltons manual: If fluid pours out your trans is overfilled. If fluid drips out the level is ok. If no fluid comes out, add and repeat until you get a slow drip, indicating the proper level.
7B. If you need to add fluid, at this point you would use the pump. They make plunger pumps for differentials that are supposed to work well, but I used a simple $3.99 bulb pump just fine.
8. When level is correct, tighten main bolt.
9. Remove OTC No. 6604
10. Replace center plug with torx head socket.

That sounds complicated but it's not bad once you have what you need. The BIG problem is that this IS a sealed trans. Ok for BMWs...not so good on a Ford products! SO, if your fluid level begins to become inconsistent be vigilant. Because there is likely an underlying problem causing this.

Temp Gun Note: The temp gun is to make sure your fluid is at 180 degrees. However, Chilton reports that this is about where it would be after driving around the block a couple times. Since I'm not a pro, and don't have one, I did the latter and it worked fine.

HOPE THIS HELPS!!! This was tough for me to research, but my Mountaineer runs fine (relatively speaking :) and I know very little about fixing cars. Just researched it till I found the correct fix.

Peace, and good luck!

Low pressure ac port

Two ports under hood for ac, use the one closest to the fire wall. Refill valve will only hook up to this one. Use a gauge on refill can so you dont over fill system and blow a o ring
