How do I replace a camshaft position sensor on a Nissan Maxima? Got a P0340 error code

I have 127k miles on this Maxima. Just replaced battery last week that had died (nor sure if relevant or not). Son was driving home and when exiting the highway, the car "powered down" (??His words), had steering and brake control and moved to the shoulder. Turned off and restarted. Check engine light remained on, he had power, but when he got home and i checked it out, i could tell something was not right. Took to autozone and checked the codes. cam back with only two, the anti-theft system and this P0340 camshaft position sensor. If anyone has any experience with this, please let me know. Thanks!

SOURCE: error code P0340

lionelloopho: P0340 is a Cylinder signal not getting to the ECM, momentarily while the engine is being cranked.
According to Nissan's diagnostic chart, the recommend checking the following: Harness connectors for the cam positioning sensor,
The sensor it self, The starter, for excessive draw.
The battery for weakness.
Nissan did have a service bulletin out on hard cranking problems.
The symptoms include difficult starting ans spark knock (very sharp rattling sound)
The bulletin reference number is: NTB95-090 You can check with Nissan because the solution warrants the replacement of the ECM.
You may have to tell a little white lie and tell them you have been living with the problem for quite a while because no one has been able to solve the problem and you have just now heard of this bulletin.
Good Luck and let me know how you make out, I'm pretty sure this is the solution.

I have a nissan murano 2005 with the code p1701 and a p0340 how can i use them to repair these codes

Nissan Murano P0340 2005 Nissan Murano - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit
Possible causes- Faulty Camshaft Position Sensor-
Camshaft Position Sensor harness is open or shorted- Camshaft Position Sensor circuit poor electrical connection- Faulty starter motor- Starting system circuit-
Dead (Weak) battery
P1701- Fuel trim

I would suggest replacing the camshaft position sensor. When the sensor fails it can cause changes in fuel system that the computer can detect. So I suspect once the camshaft sensor ivreplaced that the P1701 code will be gone.

I am not sure what "slip n tcs" means but on the 2005 nissan maxima the code P0340 is for the camshaft position sensor circit on bank 1, which is in the rear of the engine compartment. Code P0345 is for camshaft position on bank 2, which is in the front of the engine compartment. The images show the Cyl banks and a cam sensor.6_29_2012_3_38_07_am.gif6_29_2012_3_40_48_am.gif
