Hi,
I just bought a 2005 Chevy Aveo LS and I noticed that at night the dashboard lights don't come on even after I have switched the headlights on. There are no lights even at the gear stick so I cannot see anything while I am driving at night in terms of which gear am i using..Whether I am in R, P, N or D.
I am not able to see the speed or anything else on the dashboard.
The lights for the clock and CD player still work properly.
Any help will be really appreciated.
Thanks,
Rupen
The problems stated above seem to be caused by SP101 (specifically contact #1) being burned and contact 3 (dash lights), and contacts 2, 4, & 5 not receiving power. SP101 is located inside the fuse box under the hood. It is a white, 20 pin connector that splices wires internally. Either replace the connector and the purple/white wire, or solder/splice the wires together and solder or crimp. I don't know if the dealer sells the splice, I'm looking into that because I need it. I don't know why this splice malfunctions and the left side (identical) doesn't. Unfortunately, this is common in the Aveo and the dealer mechanics seem to be totally clueless!
The problem with my car was: No dash lights, first left side front marker light and left tail light fuse blown, followed by: No dash lights, right side front marker light or right tail light. The fuse would blow instantly as soon as I turned the lights on.
Finally, after quite a few hours of troubleshooting and searching, I have found the problem in my car. (2004 Optra) The leads (wires) to the light for the ashtray were scraped bare and contacting the metal frame behind the ashtray. I assume this occurred over time from opening and closing it. (Guess I should've kept my coffee change somewhere else.) It was quite a job to get at it, but when I finally found it and unplugged it, (the leads to the cigarrette lighter are part of this harness also), the fuse quit blowing. I removed the harness, soldered the leads back together, taped them and reassembled it. (I would recommend using heat shrink tubing if you have it)
Success!!!!
Please note, this could take up to 2 hours depending on your level of experience. The glove box needs to be removed, as well as the cables for the heater controls. Note where they are routed for reassembly.
I hope this helps.

Here is the website that my wife and I found. It is a step by step way of fixing the problem and saving money. It was easy to do and no more tickets for us! Don't pay hundreds if you dont have to.
Did you try turning the dimmer control up?
Splice pack 101 is a known issue to cause this problem. It likely needs replaced.
Just do you are aware this problem has a free remedy as it is a safety recall please check with the dealer campaigns
It could be the SPLICE PACK 101 (SP101) at the underhood fuse block, I'm working on this same concern right now and am pretty sure that's it.
There is a little dial on the drivers side....just spin it with your finger...its the dimmer for the dash lights///

My dashboard lights were on then they would go off and now they are totally off. I checked the fuse box inside the car and the fuses seem to be okay. Has anyone had the same problems and come up with any solutions?
hi guys also have same problem what does the pack look like is it the white looking one by has a burn mark on it???
i also have the same problem anyone try to go to the dealer???
i have the same problem and the dealer said there are no problems
I have a 2006 Aveo, and my right tail light, as well as my dashboard lights are not working. I have had all fuses checked. I have changed the bulb on the tail light, but it still won't come on. I was pulled over last night, and fortunately did not get a ticket after I almost cried over all my car problems. I have printed off complaints that others have posted with this problem, and taking it into the dealership tomorrow. After all the problems I have had with this car, it is war time!
I have the same problems and complaint with no dash / shifter lights. Where exactly is the splice pack 101 that one reader noted and how do you fix the problem that it has?
We also have a 2006 Chevy Aveo and our dashboard lights do not work. We have checked and changed all the fuses. HELP?!
As well as the no lights in the car. My passanger side parking light have gone out with it.
I have the same no dash lights and no right side running lights. Some one knows how to fix. Please help
Same Problem, But is not the light Switch dimmer (Or a muffler Bearing) I am currently Working on the Underhood Fuse panel also.
interior lights don't work, passenger running lights don't work. all of the fuses are fine, however,at in the engine fuse block where all of the lines come it to the fuses the white box is burned and melted. i worry that it is dangerous to drive the car.
I also have the same problem with no dash board lights and right rear tail light. Sometimes they come back on and stay on for a few days then, gone again.
This is a common problem on the Aveo, I have researched the issue and found many complaints about the dash lights but no answers, I would suggest you use live chat or the premium question option to find someone with detailed information or even first hand knowledge of this repair
in reading these posts- i have the same problems. i called dept of transportation government number and reported this. was told this is the only complaint against this car and year- thus without more people reporting to the government website and not independent website areas like this, there is no way they can go after chevy/gmc to get a recall done. dissatisfied SD driver with a pile....
Im having the same problem anyone up for a law suit?

@ John Paul That fixed my problem as well, maybe 2 hrs worth of work
I have an 08 Aveo and just had this problem. Dash lights didn't come on until I replaced the 15A fuse in the "Door Lock" spot in the fuse panel on the dash inside the driver's side door.
