You have a dead short somewhere. Try disconnecting the radio and replacing the fuse. If the fuse blows you'll know that radio isn't the problem. Try accessing and inspecting the wiring, you may have a grounded wire somewhere.

Pull the fuse for the dash gauges. Could be corrosion. If that doesn't fix it. Remove the instrument panel, pull the plug and put it back in. Corrosion again. Since it worked before and "all" the gauges went south. Either one of these should fix your problem.

96 jeep cherokee fuse replace

Word to the wise, Theres fuses also in the junction box. Its located in passengers front kick panel. You are having trouble with several fuses. PDC maxifuse 5 is for headlamp switch . owners manual says theres a fuse panel under LH steering wheel. Find yours. then check all fuses with a test light. Theres supposed to be a relay center to the right under the dash. hmm. Better check behind kick panel RF for that too. Dual flasher is supposed to be there, nearby (relay center). Now goto the public library and have them show you the mitchell database. If they have one. There is also a tsb for towing relays interacting with turn signls (missing wire???) and updates for many PDC boxes(fuse links and various relay repairs). Theres updates for diagrams, connector pin views and vehicle locations. jeep has been kept in disarray with many owner changes as a company. Your search has just begun. Bring a fresh cup of coffee and plenty of spare change to get prints of their updated info. The factory manuals and schematics are inundated with misdirection and upside down pictures. I read recalls first and then tsb's then "dealer info". painstakingly checking each figure is the only way to happen upon it. I dont think Eugene could read, so be careful and map out the testing your own way. happy jeep!!! It seems every jeep is special in its own way. Hopefully yours isn't as special as the (no start)(no spark) grand cherokee I have been working on. I found a plug with 3 wires where the schematic lacked the p/s wires. and this was on the transmission neutral/start!!! and connected to start enable at the pcm.!!! Pray for me. or the jeep. back up lights are PDC fuse 11. auxillary lights are PDC fuse 13. dome/courtesy is PDC 16. turn signal flasher fuse is jct box cavity 8. courtesy, radio, clock and memory etc. are fuse cavity 9 jct box. headlamp delay module is jct cavity 11. instrument lights are with clock, radio /clock and memory, headlamp switch, and yes you guessed it, park lamps they are jct box cavity 15 . trailer tow is 16. 17 is gages, headlamp delay module, chime module, ovrhd cnsl. 19 is instrument panel lamps, and radio illumination. circuit breakers are often inside the lightswitch. if you have class III towing theres a circuit breaker located somewhere" near" the jct box. Be sure and answer with a detailed rendition of the findings you incurr. Harbor freight has DVOM's and wiring repair supplies. See also Ace Hardware or Radio Shack. our local car parts stores have ideas as well as tools and supplies. all the best!!

Changed radio instramentpanel gages lights went dead

You probably touched a wire wrong and blew the fuse for nighttime illumination, same fuse that lights up the dash. Also, you might've hooked up the vehicle illumination wire wrong in the back of the new radio, causing a short and the fuse blew

sounds like you blew a fuse or a relay. id check all fuses in fuse box under dash and in the distrubution center under the hood

Fuse is blowing on instrument panel

When a fuse blows something is grounding out in the system you need to find where it is grounding out and replace the wires that are bad, as well as whatever the bad wires messed up. eg.. guages. etc.. I hope this helps you out.
