Car had a short, how do i restart?

Did the battery get changed recently? There is a small black box under dash near steering colom that has a little red button on it. Press the little button for a few secounds allowing it to reset the security system. It should stop your marker lights from flashing. It was a stock security for that year. The box is about 4 inch square and is usually just under dash near your knee. Good luck.

did you check out the battery cables,some times they can get corrosion inside where it cant be seen and cause a short, and lack of output and sonetimes will mess with the charging system.it happend on my 87.

SOURCE: i accidently switched the cables when installing a new battery now the car won't turn on nor can i get the ****** out of park. I am guessing a computer shorted?

If you are lucky, it blew out the main fuse link that is in line between the battery and the main power coupling on the starter. Still not cheap or easy, but far better than an ECU surge, hopefully. Good luck.

2002 VW Beetle starter relay?

Old school relay check, put your finger on top of the relay as someone turns the key on/not running, you can actually feel the relay closing, a little click/thump sensation under your finger. If you don't feel it, swap relay with similar non essential relay and see if it starts. easy fix, huh, go to parts store, buy a $20 relay. Same thing happened to me, as you describe, and it was shift linkage sensor, basically telling car it wasn't in park/neutral, so it wouldn't start

have you checked fuses and relays as they all seam to be from the same fuse as 1 fuse or relay runns numerus things not sure on model but thats where i would start hope this helps ivan

The click you are hearing is most likely the start slenoid making contact, however you should short the large wires @ the solenoid to make certain the starter still doesn't run, if so try tapping the starter with a hammer to shift the comutator a litle and try to start. Even if it now starts the starter will continue to give you problems so the proper fix is change the starter

Car won't fire

check your fuses as a start then check relays and then fuel pressure because the filter could have only 1000 miles on it and have problems with it and it could also be the coil pack died on it .

When you turn the key on the ASD relay should turn on the fuel pump and power the injector, Do this lets cheat the system go to the ASD rely open the cover expose the inside have some one turn the key on does the ASD make contact? If not turn the key on collpase the ASD so it make contact do you hear the fuel pump come on? Now try this just as how you iopen the ASD do the same to the starter relay. Put the car in gear e brake on someone in the vehicle in case the car start and you are in front of it and it runs you over so at least they step on the brakes. Key on ASD exposed as your collapse the starter relay does the ASD relay turn on? Here why if you can control all the relay from under the hood you will need a ignition switch (the eletrical part)

My turn signals won't come on at all?

check the fuse if good then turn on the hazard lights if they work then you probably need a turn signal flasher which is a separate flasher unit then the hazard one.it usually looks like the hazard one so with the hazards on and locate it then you will know what the signal flasher looks like and you will also know not to change the wrong flasher unit.the signal flasher is often located at or near the under dash fuse panel or somewhere in the dash you don`t say what type of car your talking about.

Your fan or heater likely shorted out and burned up, causing your one of the main fuses to blow due to the spike in current. You will need to determine what burnt up and replace it before replacing the fuse, or you may create a fire hazard or cause further equipment damage. Also double check any changes to wiring to make sure that everything is hooked up properly.
