2000 Chevrolet Tracker Logo

2000 Chevy Tracker will die after being driven for a short while, it usually takes anywhere from 30 minutes to a few days for it crank back up. It usually doesn't run but 5 to 10 minutes. When it does run it has a small amount of white smoke blowing from the tail pipe. Not a heating problem as everything associated with that has recently been fixed or replaced, along with coil packs, relay switch and crankshaft sensor.

I figured out the phantom problem in a 2001 tracker with a 2.5 ltr
it was the idle control valve or iac. the part inside that has a stem gets worn and falls loose and closes the air passage. because the iac electrical part is still working the pcm thinks that it is working fine. if u remove the iac and leave it connected to its power then turn the key in the truck to on position not start position but on position. do this for a few times and if the part is worn it will fall out. i feel that any one with a tracker who has the mystery stalling and starting problem. might want to have a closer look at the iac. especially if u have rpm issues when the inside car fan is turned to its on position. spread the word and save a ton of money on this one nidle in hay stack found!

the users guide (free) tells how.

2000 Chevy s10 starting problem

Check the ignition and Engine relay switches located under the hood. Sometimes relays go weak with age and even a bump on the road will shut them off. If you can turn the truck on, take it to Autozone or similar store for a free DTC scan code.

Car dies spontaneously

i had one of these problem childs in my shop after hours of no problem . finnaly it died at the repair shop this problem was related directly to heat and with a scann tool i could see erratic crank reference . let it sit for 5 or so min it fired right back up . this is the ticket when the problem happens lay on the gas while turning it over if you hear it poping out the intake or out out the exhaust like spark is at the wrong time you have your answer. on these motors the injector pulse is responsibility of cam sensor and spark is the cranksensors duo.
