The ignition relay acts like a breaker in a house; when you have a relay that is weak, you will get this problem. But the computer will test it as good because it still is good. It's just weak, making it trip. The reason it will start again is because the relay will automatically reset itself after the relay cools and you are off and running again. To explain the type of reaction your car or truck would experience if this were to happen is as follows:The car or truck will just plain die! no warning!IT WILL NOT spit and sputter like it is running out of gas.
Now, a module for the distributer will act the same way, but the difference is that the car or truck will not continue to start after a period of time.My suggestion is a cheap way to fiqure this out: purchase a continuity tester at any local hardware store (they are only a couple of dollars) and check the leads coming from the distributer mod. If it is good, it will light up the continuity tester. If it is bad, it won't. This only works if the car will not run at all because the mod will check good if it is weak as well as the ignition relay.Another way to fiqure this out is to go to a local junk yard and pick up a distributer mod and a ignition relay and it will cost you maybe the better part of $10.00 and you may be worry free as long as you own the car with the used part. But if you feel uncomfortable putting used parts into the ingnition system, then replace one or the other but not both and see which one works and then buy new.

  • Check your computer for trouble codes.Any problem will be stored in the computer, even if it is intermittent. also check the fuel filter,, that cuses motor shut off

84 camaro good battery and alt so the part store says but after one start battery is dead have all new wires ?

Battery is only used to start engine.
after charging battery, start car. remove Negative cable, if car dies, wiring to alternator is faulty.

if continues to run, shut off car and all accessories. install ammeter between Neg. cable and battery, if it shows a draw, pull fuses one by one to find circuit with draw while car is off.

The engine wont start on bmw z4 2008

Do your radio and headlights work? Are the head lights bright? If no then you batt is low, get it tested, call around to parts shops someone will test it. Does the engine turn over, make a sound? If batt good and engine does turn then check starter solenoid. If engine turns over then you have a problem with fuel supply or electrical, could be dirty air filter, fouled spark plugs, bad distributor cap and rotor, bad spark plug wires. electrical problems could be alternator if batt dead or computer. good luck.

Ihave a 1987 nissan pickup Ihave spark from the coil but not to the plug why

If you have spark on the high tension lead from the coil tower, then there must be a problem with the distributor cap or rotor. The cap may be cracked. Look for black fine lines on the cap. The rotor button may be worn, and not making contact, or the rotor arm may be worn. New cap and rotor!
Your spark plug wires, are they still good? Still supple (not brittle or cracked)? You can check them with an ohmmeter to see if the resistance is still within acceptable range.
Good luck.

1987 nissan 4x4 pickup with 3.0L V6. just replaced the ignition coil and rotor. Distributor cap looked ok. started ok, but after warm and driving for 2 minutes it stalled and wouldn't...

Sounds like you changed the part that failed but did'nt change the part the caused the part to fail. the spark plgs wear out and need more power to fire as they wear out as do the old plug wires 87 is a long time ago and some are still running with the orginal parts (their that good) change all the parts at once ( plugs , wires , cap and rotor aand now again another coil) and you'll be back to going. remanber that low voltage will kill everythig and some starters will crank when the voltage is too low for anything else. fuel pump and the spark need good voltage to run and the starter may still turn the motor at very low voltages. check the battery and the charging system. You may try to just jumper to another car ( so the voltage is known good) and if it runs OK you are finding and testing battery and charging system parts.

Car will not start due to no spark, batt good, alt good, ignition coil good, ignition module replaced

try replacing your distributor cap and rotor. one of them could be bad if that dosen't solve your problem try replacing your pick up coil it is under the rotor.

1997 mercury villager i have spark and fuel, changed wires, cap, rotor, and plugs.the car ran good yesterday, moved it and went to go somewhere last nite and turns over but dosent start.

could be distributor. remove cap and rotor and slotted wheel. look for brown dust covering optical sensor from bad bearing. If yes, replace distributor. It triggers spark and fuel injection.

My 1996 nissan altima wont keep a charge ,I had the alt checked replaced the batt checked for ground (negative post) same thing batt light and loosing charge

Cables from alt to battery can be deposited/burned/oxidized. In this case battery wont get charged. Also check the alternator connections. Cable might be burned or not tight enough
Also serpentine belt might be not tight enough
Good Luck
