Golf TDI 1998 problem with cold start

Hi
my golf is very hard to start in the morning recently. . when hot it is one crank and it goes, but cold start needs several cranking up. In the mornings or after few hours when the engine is cold i have noticed an air bubble as long as 3/4 inch in the see through pipe diesel pipe running between the fuel filter campartment and the engine. Is this normal. i havent changed the glow plugs yet .Any ideas please.?

found out that no juice was getting to the glow plugs. fuses were fine as well. the earth from the glow plug switch didn't work. the switch is above the gas pedal it is number 130 printed on it. i got a wire from its earth put a switch button on it and connected the other end to car body for earth. in mornings just press and hold the button for 2 second and the car starts with first crank

1998 VW Golf Tdi idle problem, it starts fine wean cold but as soon is hot does start up to 1100 revs for about 2 minutes.

sounds like a failing o2 sensor. or MAF sensor. but it could also be a blocked egr valve, its common on the tdi over time. sometimes don't even register as a fault on ecu codes.

TDI GOLF that has a hard start and white smoke

Sounds like the heater plugs, and as its quite cold it will take longer to heat up, have you tried giving it one heat light then turn the ignition off again, then do it again 3 times in total then try to fire it over if it starts quite easy then its your heater plugs. timing shouldnt be out, if it was then it would seem very lumpy even when turning over.

TEmperature gage goes up and down telling me to check coolant air bag faulty comes up and hot air goes hot than cold and hot , also there is coolent in the car

Sounds like a bad thermostat. Its either stuck open or stuck closed. Get it replaced ASAP before you do damage to the engine.
