SOURCE: Trunk does not open with button inside car. Does
Your Valet cancel switch is set.
Open your glovebox and you will see a pushbutton on the the left side, if memory serves. When this button is set, the power button will be disabled, but the key fob button will still work.
This is for when you Valet your car, you push the cancel button in the glovebox, lock the glovebox, then give the Valet your Valet key, which will not open the trunk or the glovebox. Voila, no Valet rummaging through your trunk :)
Often full gloveboxes will be the cause of the button getting pushed accidentally.

The plastic cover (on the right hand side on the driver's door) on the door handle comes off and the key opening is under the cap.

Hi there, I only bought the car with the valet keys so could not open the boot (trunk) went to change the battery and like a fool closed the lid. No key to open lid no remote or button in the car (no battery).
I come up with an idea realising the positive maybe touching the earth I fused a flying lead got a battery. lifted the bonnets negative of the battery to the bonnet catch (earth) removed the electric seat fuse and liven'd up the car by pushing the wire on the supply side of the fuse to open the trunk then change the battery it worked for me (twice).

Your vehicle is not a Hyundai Elantra -- problem solved!
SOURCE: the release button inside the car stopped working.
When was the car wrecked? I say that because this lever is hooked up to a thin cable and goes all the way to the back of the car. A technician might have not secured the cable end correctly when the work was done. . Otherwise, the cable *could* go bad on its own, even though this would be pretty rare.
