Turn vehicle on, with foot on brake put vehicle in NEUTRAL. Still holding brakes move 4x4 switch to 4 wheel drive, it should engage. The ECT snow is just s feather that make the transmission take off in 2nd gear so its not a fast take off and you wouldn't skid. Good Luck

vsc light, trac off, and check engine light on

I went on vacation and didn't drive my 02 Toyota Highlander for 3 days. When i got in to drive it after it had stormed the night before, the check engine light was on, the vsc light was on, and the trac off light was on.
I tried to change the trac off but the button wouldnt work. It has no traction on wet roads and hydroplaned easily.

what causes a toyota highlander VCS warning lights to come on?

When your VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) light comes on, it means your car has been forced to take evasive action to avoid a dangerous situation. For example, if you're driving on an icy or wet, slippery road, and take a turn too sharp or accelerate too quickly, the vehicle will automatically reduce acceleration or apply pressure to the brakes to prevent the car from losing control. In this situation the VSC indicator light will light up to alert you that the action was taken, and remind you to slow down - or to be extra careful. Be safe!

Two of the three wires attaching your temperature control to the control circuit board have broke. If you know how to soldered. then you can fix it yourself, if not then you will have to replace the whole climate control unit. Click on this link to learn more about this common problem for the Highlander.

I just put a small wood wedge in the top of the door, slid a wire hanger in and popped the lock. the alarm did go off but I was able to pull the door handle as I popped the lock and open the door. Stuck the keys in the ignition and turned it over and the alarm was deactivated...easy to do with minimal tools.

I belive the dimmer switch for the dashboard lights are located left of the speedometer. It looks like an odometer switch. Turn it to the right and that should make the instrument cluster and lights brighter.

I hope that helped. If you have more questions about this just ask.

Check the brake rotor backing plate to see if it is rubbing against the brake rotor, check the brake pad condition at the same time, it may be the low brake pad sensors that you are hearing.
