In my 95 Lexus ES 300, the check engine light came on and the overdrive off light started flashing, the car did not have enough power to accelerate from a complete stop because the transmission will not shift to second gear until after a long delay.
After hooking it to the diagnostic machine my mechanic told me the solenoid shifter needs to be replaced, and it could be that the solenoid shifter has damaged the car computer, so after getting the solenoid shifter replaced, the car drove fine for a while but then the check engine light came on and the overdrive off light started flashing again. The car still has the same symptoms; the only good thing is that the transmission is now a bit faster to shift to second gear. A different mechanic told me that maybe I do not have to replace the car computer and just replace the two knock sensors, I got the knock sensors replaced but that did not help, my check engine light and overdrive off light are still on and the car does not have enough power to accelerate from a complete stop, after driving it for a while. Any ideas what the problem might be? Do I really have to replace the car computer?
chances are you don't have to replace the computer. the reason i tell you this is because you did not mention that the car is running lousy. no complaints of rough idle or missfire or hard starting. chances are that your engine speed sensor which sends the signal to the computer which then controls the transmission is most likely the culprit.. and it could just bhe that there is a loose connection between the two. if that is ok then your transmission control module is faulty. this is not the main computer, but the gobetween the trans and the ecm.. hope this helps please rate this...thanks(btw....the knock sensors control timing not the trans mission)

Hi. All,
I just bought a 1995 Lexus ES 300. It has 179,000 miles on it. It drives very well and passed the safty inspection, but the instrument panel light is off. So I can't see the engine collant temperature gauge, the tachometer, and fuel gauge, esp. at night. The needles for the engine collant temperature gauge and the fuel gauge still light though the one for fuel is sometimes twinkling, but the needls for the tach are off. I wonder if you know how much it will cost to fix these.
Also, the user mannual says that we should "Always set the overdive switch to the ON position to improve fuel economy and quiet practice" , but the indicator light on my car says "OFF" and when I set it to ON, the O/D OFF flashes. However, the transmission doesn't seem to be a problem since it shifts very well and there's no delay. Could you tell me what the problem is? Do I have to go to a Lexus dealer now? Thank you very much!
The bulbs are replaceable you need to remove the instrument gauge assembly to get to the bulbs. As for the blinking o/d light that usually means there is a problem. That should be looked at by some one with diagnostic tools.

High rpm (fast idle) when the engine is cold. Every morning start is around 1800rpm. No engine check light on. Nothing changed after decarbonising intake and brake booster line. Voltage and resistance of TPS, IAC, coolant temp sensor and MAF was checked by the manual and are OK. Could this be the ECM issue? When the engine has right temperature, it runs smooth and stay at 700rpm. Lexus ES300 1995, 141 000 miles, bought in Canada.
it is normal. car is designed to do this when engine is cold. it called open loop. when it warms up it is called closed loop.

No cold air
It could be the air conditioner pump or maybe the freon needs to be replaced in the air conditioning unit. You should definately bring it somewhere and have it looked at. You don't want to mess with freon at home. It has to be disposed of properly.

What type of power steering fluid can be used for 1995 Lexus ES 300 that could be buy from Auto Parts or Pep Boys ?
Power steering fluid is fairly generic. Buy a good quality brand. If the system is low, it has to be leaking somewhere. In that case use a good conditioner such as the one made by Lucas. It is the only brand name product I've ever used that has worked on a consistent basis. And, will not harm internal components.(sound like a salesman? I'm not!) No chemical will repair broken or severely worn parts, but seals can dry out and leak. Never use transmission oil in power steering. That used to be OK but is not now.

what does it mean when the airbag light comes on?
Either the sensor in the bumper has lost communication with the airbag module, or the airbag module is bad, or the airbag package itself is damaged somehow.
