It will be either under the dash or under the bonnet, grab your owners manual and it will help you locate it, check all the fuses first

check the cars codes first. as can be failing fuel pressure sensor. or throttle position sensor .

I would start with something simple like a load test on the battery as it apparently does not have enough current stored to run the CPU properly. IN the AM I would think that you would have the lights on and these drain any excess current from the battery. Check the alternator for correct out put and check drive belt tension and condition as a slipping belt will be the cause of the faults.

the brake disks are worn and the pads getting low so with the wear on everything as you de accelerate the brake pad is now hitting the ridge built up edge of the disk

i had that same problem with my volvo 940 turbo and it was the crank shaft positioning sensor

Yes the lifter or one of the valves could be damaged. No the valve cover and maybe the cylinder head would need to be removed to repair depending on what the actual problem is.
