Help me figure out if it's the Alternator or thermostat please?

My best guess is that you have a broken wire or short in the power to your instruments. This is the only thing that would affect so many different components in the same area, dashboard. The main wiring for the dash come up form the fuse panel on the left side by your left foot. Maybe you will be luckiy and find a loose connection there. j

Regarding a 2001 Subie outback. In intermittent and low speed my wipers travel the proper distance while on the highest setting the drivers side blade travels past the windshield. Any thoughts?

this issue is commonly caused by worn out bushings in the wiper linkage. They are fairly easy to replace just pop out the damaged one and match it up with a new one and pop it back in. Below is a pic of the replacement ones that come in a multi pack made by dorman 25673671-kmcjfi30ya0jexy1wiziirab-2-1.jpg subaru wiper linkage 25673671-kmcjfi30ya0jexy1wiziirab-2-2.jpg

Why is my heater not working in my 2001 subaru outback?

Emmit. I assume it blows air, just not hot? If that's the case, the control valve is faulty or probably unhooked. It will be in the heater hoses visable under the hood. Look for an unhooked cable (if its cable type..very visable) or unhooked or damaged vacumn line. Good luck.

Subaru outback all wheel drive electric seat switch stuck

I just went through and determined it was the switch. My wife had accidentally moved the seat almost all of the way forward - and the reverse did not work at all - she was very cramped. After going thru fuses and seeing that none were blown I looked for loose wiring under the seat and found none. I was about to pull the seat when I stopped and decide to pull the side cover first. Item 5 in the photo below. Once that was off access to the switch was easy - item 3. The box actually contains a set of 3 switch housings each with 2 switches on it - total of 6 for each direction. I unplugged the large connector to this switch. Then I cut some wire off of a roll of wire i had in the garage and stripped both ends. I put one wire into the power contact (red) and the other into ground (black) and then took the other end of both wires and connected them across the other contacts in the connector. Pretty quickly I could determine which pair of contacts controlled which motor. I got the right combination that allowed me to operate the seat-reverse motor and get the seat back into the right position... problem solved. I still need to find a replacement switch box at a junk yard but no hurry now that the seat is back to a comfortable position.9_16_2012_2_47_21_pm.jpg

Code p0340, p0462 on subaru outback 2001

Po340 is a cam shaft sensor and po462 is low voltage on your fuel guage. So i assume you are haveing fuel level issues. If you can turn wrenches you can do these repairs yourself. Just do a google search and you can get some youtube videos of sensor replacement and location. Have fun.

Car sensor problem

Sounds like the rear hatch switch has failed. remove the switch, and wiring. If the light goes out, then its a bad switch for rear hatch. Good-Day!

Subaru Outback- my driveshaft is out. How do i remove rear universal joint?

You can't. The right way to fix it is to go to a junk yard and get another or the dealer. You could send it to a machine shop and have them do it it is next to imposible to get the new joint centered right if you could even get it out.

Manual transmission stuck first gear

I too say its a stuck shift linkage. Open the link below to see the image. The bushings (A, D and E) can wear out with time and use. I have seen the joint (at A) that attaches at the transmission get seized too. These parts can be removed from the car with the transmission in place. http://globalcarbrands.com/i/subaru/subaru-shifter/subaru-shifter-06.jpg
