1998 subaru forester temperature guage fluctuates

first make sure the fan is comming on when it gets warm. i would replace the thermostate any way whats 12.00 now vs 2,800 to replace the engen latter. also i would change out the sending unit that goes to the cluster. also disconect the neg. side battery and turn the fan by hand it should spin very easy i belive this vehicle has 2 fans. if they turn frely reconet thr battery start the vehicle turn on ac if both fans do not come on you may have a bad fan relay good luck.

Subaru wrx sti 2000 abs light in the dash comes on

The ABS system on a car has way to many components to know exactly what would make the light come on without more info from you. It could be a simple wheel speed sensor all the way up to a bad pump or modulator. Purchase an ABS code scanner at your local parts store or better yet go to each part store in your area to find one who will scan it for you. ( oriely auto parts will do that for free ) . They will advise you of the fault and sell you the correct part. The dealer and all shops will charge you a minimum 1 hour labor just to scan it for you which runs 80-100 dollars, and then fix it for you for even more. Then ya gotta hope they tell ya the truth and don't try and scare ya into thinking you need thousands of dollars of work. The ABS system on all vehicles that are equipped with that have a computer you can scan just like the on board computer for the engine. One thing to remember is that on all vehicles equipped with ABS is that when a component in the ABS system failed or intermediatlly fail it throws that light on. When that light is on it doesn't mean that you may not have brakes. Some shops will scare you into thinking you may be driving with a potential of total brake failure. Not true. All ABS equipped cars are designed so that ABS is an addition to the existing brake system and if the abs fails slightly or totally the original brake system still functions normally as it should. Shop around and get the best deal and most honest answer. I've done brake jobs with faulty ABS components for $45.00 for people who were quoted over $1,000.00 for the same work.

If the engine cranks but won't start, the starter and alternator would not be the problem.Was the engine running before you changed the timing belt ?Do you have spark to the plugs and fuel to the injectors ?Do you have normal compression on all cylinders ?

most fans in vehicles have phospher bronze bushes as bearings for the motor. These become dry and make a noise as described with thr motor eventually stopping. removal of the unit to replace or lubricate the bushes are the only answers. when you have done this check the fuse as it will probably have blown to protect the fan motor

My 1998 Subaru Forester steering wheel locked while I was driving and the brakes went out also.

I agree with the other Expert, but the steering wheel lockup is puzzling. Do you mean it did not turn or was hard to turn? Now if the steering wheel locked in its Parked position, then the Ignition switch had to allow it. It would be consistent with losing the electric feed to the motor and things the other Expert said. Your Ignition switch may have turned itself off. Sometimes too much weight on a keychain is enough.If the car will start, it may be okay. But the inside of your Ignition may be coming apart or your Keychip is cutting out. You might want to change Ignition switches.

How to reset abs light in a subaru forester

The ABS light on your vehicle will self-reset, once the condition causing the light to illuminate is rectified. Reasons for the ABS light coming on are:
  1. Worn brake pads;
  2. Worn calipers (beyond tolerance);
  3. Defective ABS unit;
  4. Low brake fluid level;
  5. Defective master cylinder;
  6. Brake fluid leak.
It is important that whatever condition is causing the ABS light to illuminate is corrected as soon as possible, as it indicates a potential hazardous condition exists with your vehicle.
