The wire you jumpered to is not for sending power, but rather a ground I think. It may be possible to remove the back seat back and use a long rod to work the trunk mechanism.

Hi, it could be that you need a new bulb some headlamp bulbs have a double filament one for the low beam and one for the high beam if one of them goes the other may still work . Best replacing the light bulb.

You need to check for power to rear light if none start to check wiring in reverse. Usually at turn signal switch or under drivers side carpet.
