Hi Susan, I'm glad to help! The complete dash must be removed to replace any parts that may be broken on the A/C housing. Not sure why you need the repair but I'm guessing one of the doors or broken. The most common door that breaks is the recirculation door, with this one you replace the recirculation housing. Make sure to have them check the heater core and evaporator for leaks. If you have a lot of miles on your truck its good practice just to have them replace the heater core and evaporator if you want to do the JOB right. What color smoke? Blue means you are burning oil, possibly worn rings or valve seals. Gray is excessive fuel from worn injectors. White is antifreeze usually means headgasket.

Check the rear driveshaft u-joints. Most likely the rear u-joint at the differential is seized/seizing. May here a rotational squeaking at low speeds. If you want to check it yourself. Remove the rear driveshaft and move the u-joint in each direction and check for tightness. Do so with both ends. Let me know how it works out for ya!
