Remove steering wheel

isolate the air bag system first . from the back of the wheel spokes check for Philip headed screws that allows the centre to be removed.. Mark the hub to the shaft position so that the wheel can be replaced in the exact same position it came off . Use a wheel puller to get it off as bumping the wheel will damage the (collision)slip joint mechanism in the steering shaft

Car idles very rough and often dies when stopped or not giving enough gas. when i park and get out of car there is a noticable smell of gas. would it be fuel injectors or gas pump?

Engine stall or RPM fluctuates at idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

No, that isn't true, Honda's do, but not GM's. It's in the tank, and you have to drop the tank to get it out.

Have a 1988 OLDSMOBILE cutlass calais Issue that

Is your olds a throttle body injected or cylinder fuel injected? or is it still a carburator?
If it's the throttle body there has been many times those injectors begin to gum up
and will cause the rough idle and even stalling out.

My 89 cutlass will turn over but wont start. all

check to make sure there is power to the coils, if power change coils.Yes, it could be the ignition module, but it could also be a loose wire connection, the crank sensor, a bad ground, or a bad ignition switch.
Make sure power is getting to the coil pack with the switch in run. coils do get burnt out after a while.

Struts

This is something you don't even want to try unless you have the tools and experience. The springs have to be caged and can cause serious injury if not done properly.
