1996 bmw 316 1st gear popping out, how to fix transmission?
Salam Omar, When a gear pops out from the selected position it usually means you have a problem with the synchromesh clutch ring or cone inside the gearbox. The job you are thinking of undertaking is a very major job and one which technicians usually choose is to replace the gearbox. There are two different types of gear box used on BMW and if you want to carry on with the job you need to identify which of those boxes is fitted to your car. The one is a close ratio gearbox and the other touring. Let me know what you decide and we'll see where to go from there. If you decide on a rebuild we have a lot of work ahead. Shalom John

Clutch noise
Bearing noises in a clutch system are easily distinguished by running a few simple tests. Start the engine and leave the transmission in neutral. If a transmission makes noise when it is in neutral it is often a worn input shaft bearing. Now depress the pedal until the clutch just engages. This is the point where the release bearing is just contacting the pressure plate fingers. If you begin to hear a squealing sound this is likely a worn release bearing. If a whirling noise is present when the clutch pedal is fully depressed it is probably the pilot bearing.
316 cranking but not starting
Most likely fault due to lack of fuel supply to engine. Make sure there is fuel in the tank. Check fuse for fuel pump relay, check fuel pump relay clicks when switched on. Check power is going to fuel pump (voltmeter is easiest). Check fuel pump is running (listen to pump).
My bmw 316i 1997 auto is not idling correctly and stalling?
Bad airflow meter hose: usually noticed after replacing an air filterRight behind the Mass Airflow Sensor on the underside of the main hose that connects the throttle body to the airbox is the airflow meter hose that connects to the engine. Very easy diagnosis and replacement. If the hose is bad it will have holes or tears in it from decay and may not be fully connected to either the engine or the throttle body hose. some electrical tape can be used as a TEMPORARY fix while you're waiting for the replacement hose. I would suggest using some type of clamp or even a zip tie on the new hose to keep it in place as it can come off after messing around with the airbox.
Bmw 316i climate control problems
The automatic a/c control units had a problem with internal failure causing them to cut on or off at random. If the lights in the a/c unit remain on when it acts up, you could have a blower resistor problem. If the display goes blank, then I would suspect the a/c unit to possibly be the culprit.
How can I get the HDC to turn off in my 2002 bmw x5?
To turn off HDC on a BMW, all you have to do is press the HDC button located on the center console. The button will have an image of a vehicle going downhill with a speedometer above it, and you'll know it's off if there are no lights illuminated above it. If you ever want to turn the system on again, just press the button again.
