I have a 2006 Yamaha 4 stroke 40 hp outboard. If it sits idle for a month or more it will not run smoothly. I can not seem to correct this problem?

1. NEVER run gas with ethanol in the engine. 2. When you start it put one half can of anti fogging fluid in gas and run it for 10 minutes. 3. When you are going to store it turn the gas supply off while the engine is running and let the engine run out of gas. That way there is no varnish build up in the carb. 4 change the spark plug twice each season.

How do I check the oil pump on a 96 wave runner 760 twin carb

First, empty your fuel tank and pour a 2% fuel mix in it. Remove the oil hoses coming to the carbs. Put the ends in 2 recipients. Run the engine for a few minutes. Oil must come in the recipients. I couldn't find an exact quantity in the Service manuals. The theoretical mix is 50:1 ( 50 liters fuel with 1 liter oil) So, the best way is to have a full tank 50/1 fuel/oil mixture AND a full oil tank. Sail a few hours, refuel ( count how many liter you've burned. Refill the oil tank to level. Check that the fuel/oil ratio is about 50:1. You can adjust the mixture with the cable on the oil pump.

Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke 1996 out board motor reaves up then drops to idle on its own

Are the controls for the 'fast idle' loose? Also--run some seafoam through the fuel system on a regular basis--one per month.

Hard starting on Yamaha 130 2 stroke. Always starts easily with ether. Choke works well.

This can have some reasons: 1 clogged carburettors. Too less fuel means a hard start. 2 Worn spark plugs 3 Loss of compression... On a 2-stroke, measuring compression is not an exact science. Have throttle wide open. No spark plugs, check compression on all cylinders. They should be all within 1bar from eachother...

Thermostat on Yamaha F40; where is it specifically? I need to inspect for gunk from burned out impeller.

It's located on the port side of the engine, You'll see just before the spark plugs the exhaust cover. At the top a cap, held with 2 10mm head bolts. There is the thermostat. But, most of time the impeller parts will stay stuck in the tube between pump and engine block...

I have a problem with my 2003 yamaha waverunner

It's not possible to be 100% certain with your information but I will follow the following sequence; first take out all the spark plugs and inspect if they are too dry or with metallic residues (this could tell you about a big failure in the cooling system or lubrication and a possible mayor engine failure) , second try to run the engine with the starter, it has to run very easy without any strange metallic noise. apparently you run your waverunner without correct lubrication or water cooling circulation and the engine was over heated.

How to test powerpack Yamaha 150 trx carbed outboard

You can not test any power pack. You have to test all other ignition components first. If all components test good it could be a bad powepack. First thing first, check ground wire, check all grounds. Make sure no carosen, or loose bolts. Your also want to ensure wire to terminal has a good connection.
