Your original problem is likely to have damaged the bearings and the spin tub shaft... the shocks can fail, but that would not affect the fitment of the shaft and bearings.

We had the same problem for 2 or 3 years. I was not able to find an answer to your question either (let me diagnose it, so I can fix it once and for all). I ended up taking out the control unit in the top front of the machine to have it "rebuilt". It's not a small task, as there are 10 or 12 sets of wire connecting to the unit. I sent the unit away to a company in either North or South Carolina. They rebuilt it for about $90. The machine has been working like a swiss watch since. We went through this process in 2011. Whirlpool or their supplier made a faulty component, and this company has made a business improving it.

No, NO, and No. Call a technician and expect to pay $500 bucks to fix this... or go washer shopping!

Inspect the water level pressure switch tube, run diagnostic cycle, and see if there are any stored error codes... make your repair plan based on the codes.
