Need User Manual
Vivitar is just a name a company will buy to stick on their item. Someone make the camera and put the Vivtar tag on it, like Sears does. Vivitar never had a web site with their instruction manuals, even for their digital cameras. It's a real mess for those used cameras. Here is a manual for "A" vivitar film point and shoot. Basically they are all the same. Some have fancier lenses or bigger zooms. That is why they are called "point and shoot". Plus they are 20+ years old. http://www.butkus.org/chinon/vivitar_cameras/vivitar_cameras.htm
Vivitar Camera 7388s
Some of the SRL camera have a dial on them to "adjust" the eyepiece so you don't have to use glasses. Either that or you bounced the internal focusing glass back into focus.
Film Advance Lever is loose, shutter wont work
If your viewfinder is black, the mirror on the film camera is up. That usually means the shutter system is out of whack... Repair would be too expensive. You can by a used Vivitar, Pentax body as a replacement as they use the same non AF K-mount lenses for pretty cheap. But again, they would be old cameras.
Film advance lever is loose
That is one old film camera. There is a screw under the glued on button on the film advance. If you can't advance, you can't fire the shutter. If that is all the problem, then it should work for awhile.
We have a Vivitar camera
Vivitar is no longer in business, they just sell their name to add to merchandise. They are usually simple cameras but should take some sort of battery. There should be a side button to pop the back open. The film should lie flat equal to the end of the take-up roll. There should be a device on the back cover that pushes the film on the take up roll. There may be a button to turn on the flash (if it has one) and a lever to go to TELE. Not much else, point and shoot.

Vivitar 980 leg lock replacement
Who are these people designing the leg locks. These are the poorest examples of engineering. Even a child could see that the leg lock begs to be broken. Maybe Vivitar should stick to flashes

Vivitar VPT-2457 57" tripod pan head screw missing
Since you still have the nut, take it to your local hardware store, and ask the friendly guy behind the counter for a bolt to fit it. He will no doubt show you a selection - in your place, I would buy two or three of differing lengths to ensure one will fit. FWIW, I would also get a split or sprung washer, to prevent it getting lost again.
