try dialing in #43# into handset while dial tone heard

I had a similar problem which I finally fixed. You did not say if any of your phones registered.
First try the following recommended by Uniden Support:
Your phone(s) should be fully charged before putting them on the main base.
Unplug the battery from the phone by removing the battery cover and removing the connector. Then, push the # and * key together and hold while you plug the battery back in (requires some dexterity). Continue to hold the two keys until you hear a confirmation tone. This will force the phone to reregister. Put the phone on the main base (if you are sure it has a fully charged battery) and see if it will reregister it to solve the problem.
That did not work for me. So, I followed the instructions to de-register the handset (even though it hadn't really registered). But, I also pretended like the Base was not available (because using the base in this step also failed).
1) Press and hold the hang up and # keys for at least 5 seconds.
2) Move the cursor to select Base Unavailable and then press Select.
3) Select the base you want to deregister from, press Select and then move the cursor to Yes and select.
This causes the phone to delete any of its base information.
At this point, again insure that your phone shows the battery is fully charged and if it is not, put it on the stand alone charger base (not the main base). With the battery fully charged, place it on the base and try registering again by placing it in the main base.
If neither of these approaches help, contact support at Uniden.com.
However, my problems were cleared when I cleared the handset with the second set of instructions.

Hello Miriam Taylor, Listening to the message should be sufficient. Mine wasn't a real message... I fat fingered the base trying to INTERCOM to my wife's remote. As I never intended to use my system as an answering machine... I deleted it too... If you look really closely at the 1,2,4 & 5 key on the touch pad of each wireless remote the (play) right arrow seen on the base is adjacent to the 2 key... Press it... Delete will be an OPTION above the SOFT keys associated with the menu words on your display... (off & message gone). Then made sure MY ANSWER FEATURE was "OFF". You will have to read the manual... (RTM, below). Message access can be accomplished three ways... at the Base, at any cordless station... and (off premises) remotely from anywhere in the telephone network. Hope this helps... ELSE RTM. no but it helps if there is a charge in the battery

If I get desperate I open the phone with small screwdriver and pry it open. Undo internal battery replace and if that doesn't work I've reset the brains by clearing inside dust and pressing buttons with screwdriver tip to sort of short circuit and reset the brains! I figure it's not working properly anyway it might ! It did.

On a Samsung 7 phone i sent a text message last night to a number that was not on my contact list. This morning there was a bell shape icon with a vertical stash threw the bell. What does this mean.

depends on the country In Australia , receipt is proof of purchase date and registering with the company is not necessary the registration that is necessary is each hand piece to the unit base station and the user book tells you how to do that

Check if the base power adapter is warm to the touch. If it's cold, then the base has no power. Test if distance between the handsets and the base is an issue by moving closer to the base. Check for any radio interference. Check if the handsets are registered. You may need to de-register them first. Try unplugging the base (power and phone line cord) then remove the batteries from each handset. Wait at least 15 minutes before restoring the power/batteries. If the base has a charging cradle, place one handset in that cradle and wait a few minutes. See if that handset works. Otherwise, try to register one of the handsets and see if it works. If the problem persists, then the base probably has a problem transmitting or receiving the signals from the handsets. Unless the system is under warranty (one year), you should replace the system. You should be able to set the Uniden answering system to Off. There are exceptions. The answering system will automatically turn on if the Uniden system has Do Not Disturb or Silent mode enabled. To check for the DND mode, look for a DND button on the base. Press and hold the button to toggle the feature off. For the Silent mode, look for the # symbol (below 9) or a Silent button on the handset and press and hold the button. Then either turn off the answering system using the button on the base or go through the menu to turn it off. To use the menu system, make sure that the phone (all handsets) system is in standby mode. Press Menu and use the arrow keys to navigate to Ans. System (or Ans. Setup). Press Select and look through the menu for a line that has Ans On/Off. Press Select and set this to Off. Press Select to Save. Press End/Clear several times to exit the menu. I hope this helps.
