This sounds like you may have to fix a problem in the pilot area before it will work. These gas operated devices have to meet a much higher safety standard than their electric counterparts. If you remove the knob, you will see the very center of the male part the know attaches to has a small flat head screw in the middle of it. Buy turning this screw in and out, you are micro adjusting the temp when the oven cycles on and off. Its best to have a digital thermometer set up within the oven so you can see exactly when the oven cycles on and off. It's going to fluctuate about 20-30 degrees. So set your oven to 350, let it turn on and watch carefully when the red light shuts off it should be between within 30 degrees from where you set it, up or down. It will light with a lighter just not the igniter which means the igniter is not working, sometimes they crack and run to earth, remove the top and turn off the lights you will see it sparking where it's running to earth.
