On one of our TI73 calculators, there are lines through numbers or letters. Is this something that can be fixed?

Are the batteries fresh? Try putting new ones in. If that doesn't help then your LCD display is probably damaged and it will probably get worse. Can it be fixed...probably, but what's worth to you? If the calculator is only worth $50 (IDK?) but they want $100 to fix it at an electronics repair shop...is it worth it?

My TI-84 plus DOES NOT automatically insert a left

that is not so: when you press the square root key, the calculator automatically inserts the opening parenthesis (the left one). It does so for all the built-in functions. With MathPrint parentheses are not necessary because of the open boxes.the content of the box is implicitly enclosed in parentheses.

Err: bound

You may be making a confusion between intercepts and intersections. Intercepts are crossing of the axes. Intersections are between two curves: You need to have two curves graphed. You choose the first curve by selecting it (Up or Down Key), and then the second one.
