Tappan Speedwave 1000 turns on when door is opened
Microwaves do normally 'turn on', in that the light comes on and the fan starts running. If the turntable starts turning and it is emitting microwave energy, then you need to take it for service or replace it. To me, it sounds fine.
How do I get rid of the noise?
Hello, Sarkis -
I found 4 descriptions of what may be causing the noise when you operate your microwave oven. See the information on all 4 possible causes here:
https://www.repairclinic.com/RepairHelp/How-To-Fix-A-Microwave/78-88--/Tappan-Microwave-is-loud-or-noisy
Note: Safety advice I have read regarding microwave oven repair is to have a microwave oven repaired only by an authorized repair technician. It is not do-it-yourself work.
Any repair might not be worth the cost compared to purchasing a new replacement. A microwave repair technician authorized to work on Tappan microwave ovens will be able to evaluate what is causing the loud noise and give you an estimate of the repair costs.
Note: If you find you need to replace your microwave oven, please be sure the old microwave oven is sent to electronics recycling.
Best wishes.
I purchased our oven 06-04-1991.
Hey Twiddledum.... .. NEVER post this much info on line... the entire world can see it..(even bad people).. Sounds like this unit has served you well... price a new one...
My tappan microwave won't shutoff
I would first check the door switches and mounts. My door switch help file is
here.
If those are good, then you likely have a shorted relay on the control boar, which I can repair for you. Details are
here.
FixYa doesn't notify us when there's a response, so if you have other questions, please contact me directly.

Microwave Oven Control Panel Repair Nationwide
"Recycling by repairing since 1982"
The display is showing the letters SE. What does this mean?
Unless there is moisture or grease on the control circuit board, "SE" error means you have a shorted membrane keypad.
The solution is actually a pretty simple DIY job - to replace the control panel frame assembly - which comes with a new keypad already installed.
If I had your full model number from the tag on the oven I could likely give you step by step instructions with the part number you need.

How do I get to the fuse on my cabinet tappan microwave?
Then you have blown a fuse. Check inside the oven chamber and look for missing powder paint or signs of arcing, if so dispose of the microwave. If the inside is good remove all the screws and remove the cover. Replace the fuse. If the magnetron was making louder noises prior then replace the magnetron. Since the fuse went the giant capacitor is likely bad. While the cabinet is open make sure to look for burned wires, check the continuity of thermal cutoffs, and check the main circuit-board for burned traces or components. The relays in most electronics are known for arcing (spot welding) and staying in the wrong position. Tap them hard with the back end of a screwdriver. During all of this use safe electrical practices by having the power cord unplugged. The capacitor could still have a high charge on it so be careful.
Microwave does not complete operation. defaults to
please make this test and fix it. God bless you
- ain control boardIf your
microwave runs for a few seconds and stops, the first thing to check is
the main control board to ensure that a shortage has not occurred. If
the part is defective then it will need to be replaced to prevent
continual shut offs. If this is not the issue, the next step would be to
check for a faulty touchpad.
- Touchpad/Control panelIf
the control board is not the issue and your microwave continues to shut
off after running for only a few seconds, the next thing to check is
your touchpad, which is also known as a control panel. Although uncommon
for this issue, symptoms are usually that the display and some buttons
are working properly; however, when selected some buttons are not
functioning. If this is the case the touchpad will need to be replaced.
