You'll need to send it to a lens repair service. Do not attempt to disassemble the lens yourself; you'll only make the problem worse and may damage the lens beyond repair.

Clean the camera / lens contacts with a lint-free cloth

Check you have not switched camera t manual focus...if it's on auto then try changing various focal lengths to see if it kicks in....if it does intermittently you may have a cracked flex cable...this eventually happens with long throw lens because the cable gets weaken as it stretches and closes.It is also possible the ribbon became dislodged at the Circuit board just behind the mount.

Bad lens. But go to camera shop with lens just to confirm.

Use the settings that will give you the best exposure / shutter speed / focus

Could be that the electrical contacts on the lens / body need gentle cleaning - try that.

This is called flare or ghosting, and can occur if the lens element or filter needs a (GENTLE) clean. It is also made worse by the angle of the lights - if the light is in the picture, there is a strong chance of flare. Try taking the photographs at an angle to the track, rather than from almost directly head on - this will mean the lights do not shine directly into the lens.If you use a longer lens from further away, it may also mitigate the effects of this.

When using a TC, as the perceived focal length increases and the aperture falls off, AF struggles to work except in very bright light.

This is a bit off the wall, I know, but have you contemplated taking the drastic step of getting the lens mended ?

Tele convertors on their own do not focus - that is achieved by the lens. Are the lens contacts clean and correctly aligned with those in the camera ?

This lens is probably ruined anyway, before you began your DIY attempts. Take it to a repair facility, but be prepared for a hefty bill, even if they will countenance attempting to repair it.

Go to the tamron site and find the nearest repair centre to you location

I know this is a shot in the dark, but have you cleaned the afore-mentioned contacts, both on the lens and the camera, using s clean dry lint-free cloth ?
