I have a ET-388 threadmill.

hi,
Its time to lubricate your treadmill.
You must obtain the proper lubricant for your treadmill. There are several different types. Contact your manufacturer for what type is needed. Using the manufacturer provided allen wrench, loosen the walking belt approximately 10 full turns on each side of the rear roller. Apply approximately 1/2 ounce of lubricant directly in the middle of the walk area underneath the walking belt upon the deck. Retighten the rear roller 10 turns on each side. Run the treadmill at 6.0 mph for 2-3 minutes to spread the lubricant evenly. Wipe excess lube from the sides of the belt. Walk on treadmill to check for proper tension on belt.
for make it easy for you I have added a video. ok

8 seconds after starting it

The L5 problem is with the Magnetic Speed Sensor (Tachometer). It's located next to the wheel on the belt. There's a metal disc in the wheel on the belt and as it passes the sensor it registers and calculates the speed based on how often it passes. Sometimes the sensor slides too far back and therefore can`t register the magnet passing by.

You'll need to just keep trying to adjust it until you find the point at which it works correctly and then glue it in place.

Low speed L5 keeps showing up and shutting it down

L5 or LS is short for Low Speed error. It basically means that the speed sensor is not picking up a signal. Unfortunaly its a pretty vague error code and can be caused by several different problems
First you have to determine weather or not you have belt movement. If you have a LS with belt movement you know that it is related to the speed sensor itself (or the MCB motor control board - the part of the MCB that handles speed sensing function). If you are getting an LS w/belt movement you have to check to see if you have power output from the MCB. If you have no power output, check fuses, if fuses are good you will need the MCB replaced. If you have suffcient output it
drive motor related. Aside from a problem with the drive motor, it is possible that another factor is stopping the motor from turning (locked up roller bearing, foreign debris, etc.). If it is a case of faulty electronics the next question is, is to figure out what cause it to fail. Most MCBs don't fail on their own, something unusual causing them to fail. The bottom line: The LS error can be complicated and should really be inspected by a professional to fully access the issue. Cost to repair can vary greatly depending on what exactly is wrong with it. Also keep in mind, if the unit is covered
under warranty, tampering with it most likely will void it.
