If your Sony Wega will not turn on, the front green light blinks, you hear a faint whirring sound and the green light turns red and flashes, it probably means the lamp inside the set is no longer working. If you noticed the screen beginning to dim in the preceding days or weeks, this most likely is the cause.

The unfortunate part Mike Miller is a lot of people doing videos on youtube on how to repair sets really don't know what they are doing and sending people in the wrong direction with bad answers, they have something that fixed their set and think that is the only part that would cause the issue or causing parts to be ordered that aren't bad....here is what you do to diagnose your TV...I pulled my service manual for your set and this code is from a backlight dimming error, there are 2 things that would cause this, 1st is the LD board is bad and needs replacing...I have a link at the bottom for a new board from shopjimmy.com...2nd would be some bad LED lamps in the panel and its shutting down the PMW (pulse width modulation) signal and turning off the LD board (chances are this is what is happening as that board seldom fails)...if your able and feel comfortable doing it you can measure the voltage at the PMW pin on the power board...it should show between 3.5 and 5 volts depending on what setting the backlights are set at...If you see that voltage when you power the set up and its running but it goes to nothing when the set shuts off then its lamps.. Most likely you have a couple failed lamps in the panel as of now but more will burn out if you don't get it fixed and the run time will get shorter and shorter as more of them fail over time..if that voltage should stay when the screen goes back then its the LD board...Good luck...

the capacitors on the power supply are bad they mushroom out at the top of the capacitor replace all caps with gold rated or silver rated high speed capacitors that can discharge at the much higher frequency generated by the power supply I use a higher voltage and I have noticed caps that have 12 volts applied to them and the caps are rated for 10 volts, because of the caps being under rated voltage wise the caps will work for a time then from over heating of the caps they will mushroom the top of the caps I have been repairing televisions for 47 years of my life since they had tubes in them, the caps with a black stripe or white stripe are not rated for 15,000 khz these caps sold at Radio Shack are only rated for 30 cycles the frequency of all switch mode power supplies is much much higher than that of a capacitor run by a power transformer, thank GOD that transformer has been replaced by switch mode power supplies that use the PWM technology much more efficient and effective Only use the gold or silver rated high speed caps to replace all caps throughout the HD TV and you can then sign your name to the invoice as being "repaired" I know exactly how PWM switch mode power supplies work you have to work with them from the secondary to the primary and I have repaired 1000'2 of these units not only for TV but printers, UPS, audio power amps, any thing with a PWM switch mode power supplies.. And I am a Certified Electronics Technician/Engineer.

DVD region is an anti-piracy method to block DVDs from other countrys to be played on a region where that DVD isn't available for selling. You still can watch that DVD by changing the DVD Player region code from options but be aware that you have a limited number of changes, after changes reach 0 you cannot change DVD region code anymore and your DVD player will be stucked to a certain region that you selected.

Remove the bottom cover and flip the circuit board out of the way.
Check to see that the capstan drive belt is not loose or broken.
Also, open the top cover and check the drive belt for the cassette transport.
