it sounds like something has happened to the cam gears thatdo the decorative stitches, which means the sewing machine needsto be checked..but before you have the machine checked,, make sure all the dial that are used for decorative stitches are at the right settingone missed setting can cause a lot of problems

It's likely that you can get the cover above the needle shaft off -- they're often separate. If so, there will be a white disk in the side and one in the back that can be popped of using a screwdriver blade on one side. They each cover a screw that you then remove, and you can see the tension assembly and thread path. Often, there are threads wrapped around one of those things inside. If not, you can remove the hand wheel. If it has a similar white disk in the center, you can pop that off and remove the screw underneath. If there is no screw, then it's a force fit. Squeeze the wheel with your hand while rocking it until it comes off. If you need to remove the covers, remove the back one first.

The machine is like a laptop... the case comes apart, typically 2 halves. Remember this is a computer with all the dangers of other electronics some of which could be deadly if you aren't experience with electronics. I wouldn't advise it... take it in.
