Need to enable bridge mode

Hello

Ok, you do not spesify as to which model in the speedstream range you are using, but here is some general instructions.

By default, a DHCP server is turned on the modem, and will issue a 192.168.0.x IP address to you. You may have to do a IPCONFIG /release then IPCONFIG /renew. Browse to http://192.168.0.1/
You will be prompted with a User ID and Password Login screen... you can ignore this. This is for PPPoE on the modem setup.
Click Advanced on the left menu
Click PPP Location
Select the "Bridged Mode (PPPoE is not used)." option.
Click Save Changes
You can now use the DSL modem on the WAN port of a router. You will be presented with this screen after clicking Save Changes:

If this is not clear enough, let me know the full details of the router and i will post you a manual.

Kind regards
Andrea

I lost my install disc, can I download one for

YES. here is a link for you to follow but please read the article here before you download anything as which operating system you are using makes a huge difference to which driver to install. Also, if you are using OPTUSNET as your service provider, you can download the optus driver from www.optusnet.com.au. If you install the siemens driver, it will erase the optus settings in the modem and in the configuration file which is hidden within Windows. If this happens, you will have to reconfigure ALL the settings including your login and password.

Wireless facility does not work LED does not

The connection to your modem could be faulty.
Ring your ISP and get them to test the connection to your ADSL modem.
Also do you have ADSL line filters on all your phones?
The phone connection to the ADSL modem does NOT use a ADSL filter.

How to secure my siemens speedstream router?

To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router’s wireless settings configured and also needs the wireless cards in all the laptops and or computers to be configured with the router’s wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.

Power switch won't stay on.

Sounds like the spring has broken off. You can use duck tape to hold in or you can go buy a new one from your ISP company.

Wireless not working

Sounds like a heat issue in the modem. Can you keep it in an area where it will run cooler? You may have to replace the modem.

SpeedStream 4100 - working fine until yesterday

The modem advanced settings had VCI=35. It should be VCI=32 for QWest. See http://www.dslmodemsdirect.com/DSL%20Configuration/VPI_VCI%20configuration%20Page.htm for other providers.

I have to turn the modem off and back on every

If it is wired through the LAN ethernet connection directly to your computer it is cause by unplugging the ethernet. Routers and modems hate a ethernet cable unplugged and will stop communicating if unplugged. You will have to reset almost every time. When reset the router goes out and looks at what is connected and then handshakes with it. If it is a wireless issue you can reset your wireless setting in your control panel. This shouldnt happen as your wireless network should always be broadcasting. Generally, to connect back to a router you only need to unplug the router to re-establish the connection to the modem. Going all wireless is the only way to fix this

Modem and router together not working. Did though.

Believe it or not the average router lives about 6-18 months before it start it downward spiral. Any router over 2 years old needs to be replaced or you will just keep messing with it until you finally go get the new router out of frustration.... OH, dont buy any "G" series routers. They will be antiques in a short time. "N" series is what you want. In addition make sure any new modem you buy is DOCSIS 3.0 or better. Walmart sell a couple of modems but they will not be compatible with the higher speeds coming soon. No, firmware cannot be updated to 3.0 as it is a hardware and software thing for 3.0. Be well
