I would like to repair a relatively newish TV?
It could be due to overheating or a capacitor issue. DIY would involve use of a multimeter and a lot of patience and knowledge to track the specific problem. It is pretty clear it is not a timer issue as the TV remains on only 5 seconds. A repair at a shop could cost hundreds. The model has not been listed, rendering it impossible to even look up the troubleshooting section of a manual much less find a part. You might google the brand and model and the problem and find something or try forums or support for the TV on the manufacturer's site. I think it long odds to find its service manual posted but you can try googling such a search.
I presume you have covered the basics such as a bad power supply cord. Worn wiring could cause such an effect.
Why does the tv turn off?
That sounds like an overheating issue. Check the air vents in the back and edges. Look inside for a cooling fan.
How do i reset my SEIKI TV # SE5OFY10
There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Service mode entry, adjust and exit procedure to many popular brand TVs are given. Never forget to exit the service mode, after all adjustments have been done.
My Seiki works very well but after two minutes it stops and goes into standby.

NOT TOLD AT ALL DOING WHAT , AS IN WHAT INPUT IS SELECTED.
DOES THE HDTV STATIONS GO DEAD TOO?????
USING THE ANTENNA, TUNER SET TO A GOOD STRONG STATION.
DOES A DVD DRIVE FAIL AS INPUT.
WE HAVE ZERO CLUES WHAT YOU ARE WATCHING
AND IF AN INPUT GOES DEAD THE TV WILL SLEEP (FOR THE eco REASON AND BURN LCD REASONS)

yes , yes and yes.
yes it is bad
yes it needs service
and yes parts in it are bad.
what else needs knowing well ,you have no TV service skills, spare parts, or service manual nor tools, meters scopes and other key service tools. (large list deleted)
so what you can do is gue$$ or get it fixed.

NO INPUT Source told.
antenna, HDTV channel strong and clear
DVD player, deck hdmi
cable box, hdmi.
a home theater , AVR? connected HDMI
ROKU (or the like) HDMI connected, well mine goes to standby mode unused.
and and endless list of other things HMDI, not told
we can not see your TV nor its connections ever, unless told or photos of it all
And my own advice after seeing the issues that happen when Average Joe decides to fix his own television. It follows on from 'DIY Brain Surgery for Beginners', and seldom ends well.
