You would better off having the Weather Network App on the television and on your Smart Phone and set it for Notifications. The App is free. Capacitors in this set don't "blow up" unless they're over driven, but I doubt you have cap issues, a guess as to what made the pop sound was one of the transistors on the x-sus board, the one with the 2 large black heat sinks. Those are kind of known for giving issues and it's normal for them to short, and sometimes this causes a pop sound. Best way to fix it if you want to spend the money is replace both the x-sus and x-driver boards, a replacement sus board may fix it but a lot of times the issues starts with the driver, so a replacement sus can be damaged unless both boards are replaced, btw these boards won't be cheap, and they're hard to find, do NOT buy one from ebay, www.shopjimmy.com is the best place to get boards however I doubt they will have them on a tv of this age. Also don't try replacing the bad field affect transistors, they will blow again. ..

Hi Andy, first off, please don't use caps when sending a message as it's harder to read and seems like your screaming. With that being said there are a few things in your message that I need to address, I pulled up a service manual on your TV and it doesn't have a tcon board, this set only has 3 boards, the power, main and wi-fi card, so not sure what boards you're calling the tcon boards. Next thing I don't understand is you said when you disconnect the power going to the main you have sound, that's not possible, if you unhook the power to the main you would never get sound so I assume you may have unhooked what's called the LVDS plug, that's the flat ribbon cable going from main to in this case to the panel boards. On Samsung sets if the connector is unhooked going to the main board the inverter that drives the backlights will come on and you will get backlights if they're working like they are in your case. You said if you hook it back up you get a fluctuation of a blue and black (no backlight) issue. What I believe you have going on is a short in either one of the COF (chip on film) IC's or another device on one of the panel boards is bad. What I want you to do is unhook one of the panel board connectors at a time and see if you get half a normal picture, you need to power the set off when you go from one ribbon connector to the next, I think you will find one of the boards is working and you get half a picture. Now for the not so good news, if the panel is bad the set isn't fixable, you can try searching "fixing a TV with a piece of tape" for an idea of how you may be able to get the set working again but it may not work totally correct.. I'm not going to describe this procedure as you will see how it works by the videos.

It sounds like you have an issue with the Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) function. When the home theater system is connected to a compatible TV by an HDMI cable, you can sync the operations when this is enabled on both the TV and the home theater system. You need to be turn the feature off on one or both devices. If you have another HDMI port on the TV, you could move the HDMI cable to that port. (Most TVs only have one HDMI-CEC enabled port.) Note: this turns off the audio return channel option. If you only have the HDMI cable connected between the TV and the HT-EM53C, you will need to connect another cable. Depending on the TV, this could be an optical audio cable, analog RCA audio cable or headphone (3.5mm) to RCA audio cable. This television is VERY basic. Well, it could be any of about 25 components that are bad, start by testing bridge rectifiers, if they look good test the main power mosfet, of that looks good look for a shorted component on the cold side of the power supply, Unless you have some form of degree in electrical engineering this may be a bit over your head.

It seems Power Supply Section of TV is getting over heated that is causing the problem. Try updating/upgrading firmware following instructions given in user manual meta-local-1 (samsung.com) page 103 but keep in mind that there is a 50 50 chance. Even sometimes upgrading/updating firmware may cause your device to be brick. It is better to consult the OEM for advice before doing anything by yourself. Hi Juan, any Samsung model with the 2nd set of letters of NU has panel issues. You're on the right path when you isolated some of the ribbon connectors, generally only one pin is causing the issue, you have pins 9 to 12 isolated if I understand right, try isolating one pin at a time and see if you get a somewhat normal picture, naturally it's not going to be 100% as you have some dead pixels doing this. If this doesn't get rid of the line there is only one other way to fix it, you will need a thermal camera for this however, it's one of the COF IC's that are shorted, there should be 4 or 5 flat cables on each panel board, with the set running with the pins on the main board ribbon cable in place measure the heat of the IC's, one will be higher than the rest, that's the bad one, you can remove it and the set will work again without a noticeable issue, be sure to use a sharp blade when removing the IC or you will short the pins.
