If there is nothing lit, then there is a strong possibility of a blown main control board and/or user interface(the push-button panel *you* choose options from). Now, if there are lights lit and when you hit start, nothing happens, the door switch could be the culprit--its a safety feature that prevents anything from turning on while the door is open. Sometimes, liquid can get spilled into the opening for the latch and drizzle down into the electric lock mech causing a malfunction. Have you had a power outage recently? If the answer is yes, then the main board or user interface could have been damaged--if the current surge doesn't blow out the appliance immediately, *usually* about 3-4 weeks after the episode things will start happening or *not* happening with appliances due to damaged chips on the boards starting to fail. It's available from SearsPartsDirect.com for about $54. You may also need the Case Sensor, part # DD94-01006A for about $44, but I would start with just the Case-Brake Assembly first. 90% of the time, that part alone will fix your problem.
