Question edited for clarity, typos and spelling. It could be a few things. The most likely is a scratched or dirty DVD. The player might be cutting out on overheat. Vacuum the vents. If it is the portable type that looks like a laptop, don't put it on your lap as the intake vents are often in the underside. Put it on a tray. Or the laser optics need cleaning. Amazon or Walmart have the cleaning discs.

The PPHP42B manual states in cases of "No Sound" it could be caused by "volume too low" or "no input sound source" - are you using the remote to adjust the sound / input?

If it stays distorted eith the speaker or the amplifier is at fault. If it only does it when adjusting the volume, it is probably the vol control at fault.

The power supply has gone bad and it needs to be replaced.

My Sony tv has a selection in the menu to switch from the tv speakers to the digital audio output. If you have the powered Digital to Analog Converter hooked up properly, I would check that setting.

Some players won’t play disc which are out of region. Try a different one.

Check if you have coax output (orange colour socket) on TV and soundbar if you have you can link them together for digital audio, if not check if you have a headpone socket if so you can buy an adpter from headpones to phono connectors (your red & white) but be aware that when you turn the volume up via TV remote control it will turn up the volume on the soundbar.
