Check page 9 - you have to re-enter these basic settings after removing the battery, this may clear the error message although i was unable to confirm this from the manual.

The battery was flat.
renewed it
i guess stopped of use your strap for a long period of time. so you need to nicely clean the strap and try a lot of times until it work again. I happend to me before and the strap worked only after the 10th session on the treadmill
