My minuteman concrete mixer leaking a lot oil from gear box bought oil seal , but i need to fill it back on what oil should i use and how much ? please advice .thank you . jerry

Not all oils mix well so completely draining the old oil before refilling is important except where you know what oil is already inside, which I note you don't. You might find an application for your mixer in one of the online application catalogues - just choose your favourite brand. Most oil brands also have a technical department designed to make such recommendations. If you can't find a recommendation then what you fill it with is very much your choice - many of the traditional oils for slow rotating gears and bearings have disappeared from the marketplace; the very sticky heavy oils and semi-greases have all but disappeared, some of which were blended with bitumen and some of which had to be warmed in order to make them flow enough to pour. You could equally choose an SAE 90 or 140 EP (extreme pressure) or even one of the modern semi-synthetic multigrade gear oils such as the SX 75-90 or you could go to the extreme and just use one of the many automatic transmission/power steering fluids that have superior lubrication and cooling properties. It would be sensible to use an oil that is readily available and there is no reason why you shouldn't use a reasonable quality engine oil as most give a good performance in a gearbox and many vehicle gearboxes have specified engine oil...

Beater hits bottom of bowl. Screw wont budge.

Turn it upside down and flood it with penetrating oil. Cover it with clingfilm and leave it for 24 hours. Then the screw will budge.

How can I access the motor and connections area in my Grundig UM9140 stand mixer?

There are no specific instructions for disassembly or this little known make and model, but there are generic stand mixer videos. Screw are often hidden under removable caps which have to be prised out. https://www.google.com/search?q=Grundig+UM9140+stand+mixer There is a claim of a service manual here http://www.manuals.group/results.php?search=GRUNDIG%20UM%209140%20MANUAL ..

I accidentally put the beaters in the wrong way, they jammed together. Now when I try using my mixer and beaters are in correctly the mixer works for a few turns then the beaters jam together. I’m wondering how and if it can be fixed?

More than likely the gears inside are nylon and have been cross threaded. They need to be replaced. You did not post the make and model number though.

Kitchen aid 110v 450watt, I want to convert to 220v

Hi guys,

The only available Kitchen Aid stand mixers on the European markets are the Kitchen Aid Classic and the Kitchen Aid Artisan.

The best way is to contact a Kitchen Aid service center / repair facility in your area.
Here is the European website of Kitchen Aid: http://www.kitchenaid.eu/eu_EU/ka/ka_europe.htm

If you bought a different Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer (like the Professional series) you probably won't find the required parts to convert it to a European model. The only way would be to use a voltage converter.

I hope this helps.

Kitchen Aid Mixer, Model K5SS. I only have speed 1 and 2 when mixing anything thick or giving resistance, regardless of what speed I set the speed control, but all 10 speeds work fine with nothing in the bowl, why?

I can't say with any confidence I know how it works, however it is a series wound brush type motor that without control produces high torque at low speed - directly wired such a motor would only be running slow because of an excess load when it would consume enough current to self destruct. Speed control is accomplished by electronic circuitry reducing the power to the motor which is fine when no load is applied but that is completely unsatisfactory so there is also a centrifugal governor to provide a more stable speed under load and that could be the problem - maybe a spring dropped out or something.

Have a d330 Hobart mixer was wondering if I can

one would assume that if you get a 40 qt. bowl. you will most likely increase your batch size, correct, i would make do with what you have, that mixer was designed for a 30 qt. bowl, not a 40, hence the d 340 model, but the choice is yours. i would stay with what you have, monomoy
