Have a patton space heater. Light is on when plugged in but will not start. Can you tell me how to fix?

If the light on your Patton space heater is on, but the heater will not start, there are a few things you can try to fix the issue:
  1. Check the power source: Make sure the heater is plugged into a working outlet and that the circuit breaker or fuse is not tripped.
  2. Check the thermostat: Make sure the thermostat is set to a temperature higher than the current room temperature. If the thermostat is set too low, the heater will not turn on.
  3. Check the safety features: Some space heaters have safety features, such as a tip-over switch or overheating protection, that will shut off the heater if it is not positioned properly or if it gets too hot. Check to make sure the heater is positioned correctly and not too close to anything that could cause it to overheat.
  4. Clean the heater: Over time, dust and debris can accumulate in the heater, which can cause it to malfunction. Unplug the heater and clean it thoroughly, making sure to remove any debris from the heating element.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, there may be a problem with the heater's internal components. In that case, it is best to contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician for further assistance.

My dad let me use his Patton PRH11 120v 60hz 1500watt heater and when I plug it in no light or nothing comes on?

Check the base for a tip over safety switch. It needs to be pressed in. Can't find a manual for it as it appears to be an Amazon, Walmart special. Try it in another outlet, or put something else in that outlet that is known to work like your cellphone charger. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Patton-Radiant-Heater/15126054 https://www.google.com/search?q=Patton+PRH11+manual .. ..

My Patton PUH682 utility heater from 2011 is otherwise in excellent condition but Auto Safety Shut-Off seems to be a design problem. My overheat sensor quickly shut off the unit when surrounding air was cool. It is inside the bottom of the fan box wired between the on/off potentiometer and heating coils. I identified it by turning on the heater and watched the metal contacts separate as it tripped. On my unit, the defective overheat sensor is hardwired. Since it was otherwise useless as a heater, I decided to jerry-rig it and hope for the best. I pried back the sheet metal edge of the fan box and wrapped the sensor with electrical tape. Then I took a very small squeezable metal paper clip and lined it with electrical tape. I clamped it over the overheat sensor and it fits perfectly to prevent the metal plates from separating. Now the heater works the way it should. The cable, coils and plug don't overheat on Hot setting and it runs continuously.

Wires are rated to handle a certain amount of amps. Your dryer cord is bigger than your coffee maker cord because your dryer pulls more amps. What is going on with your heater is your heater is drawing more amps than the wire can handle. Therefore the wire is getting hot, melting the insulation. Hopefully it shorts out before it catches on fire!!! BOTH BAD SCENERIOS!!! It is possible your machine is just excessively dirty, therefore working extremely hard, drawing high amps. If you are able to give a good cleaning, do so. Let dry and turn heater on DURING A TIME WHEN YOU CAN MONITOR IT, NOT OVERNIGHT. See if it has made a significant improvement. If not, it's time for a new heater!! Best Wishes!! If you need further help, reach me via phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/thomas_092728000e6acb79

Do Patton oil filled heaters have any teflon coating or teflon parts? Bought it 15 Years ago, deadly to birds.

I doubt that they have any Teflon in them, and it would certainly have burned off by now if it did.

Where can I find replacement thermostat/s for the PUH682 electric heater/s.

I would think the contacts are burning out on the line voltage thermostats. The contact areas have been reduced over the years so they last just past the warranty period. If it were mine, I'd locate a line voltage baseboard heater thermostat and adapt the control to operate the heater elements. Much higher amp rating and built more substantially.

The Caution Light ?

MILKHOUSE HEATER "CAUTION LIGHT" SOLUTION: Before I explain, let me clear this myth up: this is NOT an issue with the pendulum safety switch (some mistake that for a "mercury" switch). To begin, unplug the heater. Open it up and clean it out. I mean, buy a can of non-chlorinated brake cleaner and squirt all of the contacts good. Below the fan there is a sensor mounted on the heater element box on the bottom. That goes bad and causes it to trip. While you are there, squirt the motor bushings good with the brake cleaner and dab a drop of synthetic motor oil (just a drop) on EACH of the two motor bushings. Personally, I rewired this and bypassed all of the safety features. You can bypass that sensor without soldering or cutting any wires. All you have to do is unscrew the wires from the holder and then unscrew the tiny nuts and tiny bolts. Then bolt the together at one end (note the position) and put it back in the holder and tighten the screw to hold it in. This method fixes the issue completely as it removes the sensor from the equation. In fact, I just did that on my third milkhouse heater and it has been running solid for the last 15 minutes. Use your modified heater with caution! Let the brake cleaner dry before you energize this device!
