Fuel driping from bottom
Sounds like the float in the carb is stuck. Take the bowl off, and check to see that the float is moving freely. Also check to see that the needle valve seat is clean - use a qtip or small wooden dowel to clean the seat.
Smokes bad when burner kicks on
Hey mate,
What brand of burner are you running? I am a Karcher Tech but they all work on the same principle,
Your burner is getting to much diesel/kero, most have little flow swicthes on them to tell them to pump fuel or spark when there is water present in the burner coil, if this switch is faulty or getting a faulse reading then it will tell the unit to pump fuel when it is not needed and this will cause very excessive smoke for the first few mins when the burner kicks in...
If you have the excessive smoke continuously(even after 10 mins of continous use then it is probable that your fuel pump/system is running to rich, these units need regular servicing and adjustments as fuel nozzles/components wear,
There is alot of precise adjustments and checks on these units and i would reccommend getting it checked by a qualified tech, as when there is heated fuel and spark these units can be dangerous!
Hope this helps
Regards
Brad

Pull start wont pull fully
Usually the rewind spring or spring anchor points are broken. The starter must be disassembled and the parts inspected. Remember the spring is under tension! [There are many different types of starters, and a manual is a good idea if you are not familiar with them.] If the starter is hard to pull, remove the starter and then try it. If the starter is ok off the engine, check the engine itself for a seized or oil-locked cylinder. Remove the plug and pull rope the motor, if it will now spin and oil blows out the plug hole- then gas from the carb is leaking into the sump; or the engine has been tipped for a long time
