Try the White Balance settings. There are 59 references in the manual. Open the link, Press CTRL+F and type ' white balance ' and scroll through. If that doesn't fix it, it will need service. I would try and search on the official companies website that your cameras name brand is and see if the instruction manual is available.

If the charge light comes on when you plug it in to charge then the battery needs to be replaced. Or something inside needs to be repaired If the light does not come on then the charger or its cord may be bad.

Check the MODE. Dark images can be recorded when camera is in MANUAL and there is not enough light. Without changing anything. Move to BRIGHTER location and take another photo. if the photo is brighter you are in a manual mode.

It sounds like the date memory battery (if your camera model has one) is dead. If you don't see info in the manual, look for a tiny slot in one of the camera's access points like where the SD card or larger battery is and see if you see it there. It will be a thin, tray that contains a button battery. If there isn't one then the camera uses an internal battery that would have to be replaced by Nikon.

Sounds like the problem is with the AF-S 18-55 lens not the body, Does the zoom and focus ok?

Possibly leaky capacitors inside the camera.

Is the card cheap? Is the card a class 2 or lower? Is the card full of pictures that you should have downloaded a long time ago? Are your batteries almost depleted? These are things that will slow down a camera.
