It doesn't matter which side the holes are on. Most people put them to the back so they don't see the holes.

Humming sound in waterline
Check to see if the shut off valve to toilet is turned on all the way, if it is opened all the way more than likely you will need to replace fill valve.

Unfortunately this sounds like more than a blockage. If this was a blockage water would not drain, maybe fill in sink or dishwasher etc. If water is coming from walls probably means it is leaking from drain pipe in the wall. Which would mean opening wall to find leak. If you need further help, reach me via phone at

One thing you can do that should help you without to much expense is to in stall a dual soft seated check valve directly upstream of your air gap. This should help quiet it down.
One other thing you can try if your R.O. system is a small under counter unit that has the r.o. membrane and filters mounted in a moveable unit is to turn your r.o. faucet on and tilt the filter unit forward at about a 45 degree angle. Do this at least ten times and see if that helps with the noise. I have seen several smaller units that have a automatic shut off valve that will chatter or cause other problems if this is not done. Hope this helps you. Thanks

HI Dear water from dishwasher is leaking from
there is a cloged line between the air gap and the disposal (if you have one) or the drain under the sink.
you will need to remove the pipe and flush out with water. this is usually a rubber hose. most of the time, the clog is at the disposal where the rubber hose connects.
you should be able to see the clog once you remove the rubber hose. clean this out ( I use popsickle sticks) once cleaned out, reinstall the hose and try your dishwasher.

What is the weight of a pile 30 feet long, 36
(1.5ft)^2 * Pi * 30 ft * 62.4 lbs/cu-ft = 13232.4 pounds plus the weight of the pipe which will vary depending on the material of the pipe.
You can find the weight of the pipe if you know the brand and material as most manufacturers will list the weight per foot in their catalog.
30 feet has about 11.94 cubic feet of whatever material the pipe is made of.

Can you sweat pvc pipe
Hi,
No you cannot. It must be glued and you cannot effectively glue pvc to brass. They do make pvc drains with a brass top... that is what you need to use, then you can glue to the drain and still have the brass look that you want.

Inspector said you cant tie anyother fixtures into a vent. DWV
What state is this? Each code varies slightly within states. More than likely, your inspector is right. There are guidlelines we have to follow as to where and how (toilets especially) tie into the sewer. You may still be able to tie your toilet into this line, but in a different spot. It is much too complex to be able to walk you through the steps. Many inspectors are not very accommodating to a homeowner trying to do their own work. Without visually seeing the entire system, I doubt anyone will be able to help via the internet. Due to the complexity of the plumbing codes, I would highly encourage you to see if a plumber would be kind enough to just look at it for you, and offer some suggestions. I believe what you need can be done, but perhaps just not the way it is done right now.

Peeling paint coming off of oil rubbed bronze basket strainer
Bronze is more expensive than standard mass production is worth, i supposed if you want them made out of any mat. you can call kohler and pay for it, i've been to their plant and they do some pretty awsome custom work.
Rubbed oil is just a color and somtimes "you get what you pay for" if you buy a cheap basket strainer they usually do exactly what you're saying.
You can buy more expensive strainers that have a better finish, I know Kohler and Moen have lifetime warranty finish on many of their higher end products.
