most likely the button for the power switch cracked apart inside. if your mechanicly inclined take it apart and pump the on/off switch wires together. unplug when not in use instead to shut it off

Just put it on and place an iPhone or iPod with music on the sound system. manage the music and volume on the iPod.

Check to see if the belt is still on by rotating the table and see if you have a bit of drag. do the lights come on?
