Hello Graham Chetwynd,
Seven months... My
GUESS would be yes.
It is a rather short period for a
"NEW" BATTERY...
But not knowing the
actual date YOUR battery was installed... or it's "
shelf-life" WHEN it was installed can have a significant impact
on the LONGEVITY you experienced.
(Opinion: normal expectation should be three to five years).
I now CHANGE all my WIFE's and OWN
WATCH / CHRONO-meter/Chronograph batteries ...
A few quality tools are required... but after EXPERIENCING the general lack of CARE and/or CRAFTSMANSHIP... at DEPARTMENT, "Jewelers, "DIME"-STORE.. (etc.)...
Even a "respected " WATCH "repair" shop... pretty well
pounded, scratch & bug... botched up some beautiful WATCH CASES...
I felt I could do a lot better (worlds) on my own...
(amateur: VERSUS the professional...) results looked as though the watch cases were opened with brick chisels)).
Start by taking and old soft bristle brush and cleaning & polishing the ENTIRE WATCH.. Clean watch will keep dirt from IMMEDIATELY getting pushed inside the watch. If a case "cracker" is used... put a bit of masking tape AGAINST the CASE
and press firmly...
Marks are inevitable... but love & care go a long way to minimizing the DAMAGE (do try not to get blood on the watch... it corrodes).
Over he ensuing decades... I've gotten better.. but NEVER lose sight as SOON as a watch case is opened by LESS THAN A
FACTORY technician... it goes from
WATER-POOF to water
RESISTANT (at best).

From here (plus a bit of skill)... all the gouges & scratches
will be minimized...
(+ tweezers =
forceps (teeny-tiny parts handling)).
I'll be around (about daily... pray do comment me back if I can help... (I love watches).
When you DO GET INSIDE.... write down the WATCH... and it's BATTERY... and keep it with your AWI battery guide...
(battery TRANSLATION guide (I have ... but could NOT find)).
((( comment me... I'll translate from AWI to SRI to Sony, Duracell, Renata, Varta & Eveready or Accutron (Bulova))))...
You will be proud (we can do this).
