not enough information on the motor. what year and model? but all yamaha outboards are shut down by the C.D.I. being grounded by the key switch or the emergency kill switch. the cheapest thing to test or replace is the key switch and the emergency kill. with more info on engine I can help you further.

Ocean Runner 150 will idle and get to approximately 1400 rpm then dies out. It will restart in one minute or so.

Question edited for a lot more clarity. It is likely to be fuel starvation. Check the following; The tank vent. The pump bulb is the right way around, ARROW towards Engine. Cut a section of pipe and see if the inner lining has delaminated. The grey fuel pipe is bad for this. Modern Ethanol fuels damage the lining. Black Tube is best. Also I had a similar issue on an Evinrude and it was a linkage not connected to the carbs. Only one was actuating. Check grounds and bad connections as David says.

Older 2002 Honda BFA-15, was just serviced two months ago. It is now extremely hard to start, almost like it is getting no spark. TRIED STARTING fluid in cylinders and no turn over.

Did you run the engine any since you had it serviced? If not, that is the issue. The carbs will stop up from just sitting! Take it back to where you get it serviced and complain like hell... DO NOT USE STARTING FLUID IN THIS UNIT!!!!

Boat does not plane

you could try a lower pitched prop.2" would up the revs by 400 revs.,which would up the revs ,but give you more low down thrust,and/or tucking the motor under more[if you have electric trim/tilt].thats a big boat and fair bit of weight for a 40hp..my 40hp merc is on a 13ft saracen, and with two of us it takes a while to get gooing.so i bought a ProPulse prop, with adjustable pitch.been god to try different pitches

An ozark trolling motor

It is generally difficult to find replacement parts. You might try e-bay or Amazon, but by time you buy the parts and make the repairs, you could have bought a new trolling motor.

Boat motor has no power

boating season is coming again. if your boat motor will not start and it has a shifter box here is your most common problems. 1. the shifter cable has stretched and the neutral position on your shifter doesn't match the neutral position on the motor. this will make the boat think it's in gear which will keep your motor from starting. adjust your cable so it lines up again or replace it if it's too far out. 2. steering is stiff... always grease the rear grease nippers on your motor.. second get a cable sprayer attachment and a can of wd40 .. the attachment slips over the end of the cable and forces the wd40 down the casing.. spray until the fluid coming out of the far end comes out clean . then rehook the cable. do this for your shifter and acceleration cable if you have the duel type. bike shops carry the required tool. 3. replace the leg oil and if it is a 4 stroke the engine oil. 4. replace the spark plugs and carry a spare set +tools required to remove them. 5. check your batteries and make sure they are topped up. a small 40 watt trickle charger is an excellent addition. while your there check to see if the connections are tight and clean on both the motor end and the engine end. check your bilge pump to ensure it is working. 6 make sure you carry a few spare fuses... I keep a package of mixed on board. 7. make sure your water pump is spitting out a good steady stream. you do this by getting water muffs and supplying water from a garden hose. once water is present and running passed the muffs at a good rate fire up the engine. the stream coming out in the back below the motor should be as steady as a fellow having a bathroom break. if it isn't get that pump replaced.. your motor is expensive. 8. put some spare fuel in a container on your boat.. I lost count of all the guys I towed back. 9. always carry a manual bailer , paddle, whistle , and flashlight with fresh batteries. and let some one know where your going and when you expect to be back.( I also carry dry clothes in a sealed vacuum bag , rain gear and most important 2 jugs of freshwater) have fun and be respectful.

Mercury outboard over charging

Your motor is fine. It needs to put out more than 12 volts or the battery will not charge. Most alternators put out between 13 - 17 volts, so this is well within the range.

My 2001 25hp rstroke is not charging battery. Where do I start. Multimeter shows no additional voltage from running engine.

Sounds like you need to change the charger coil. You need to pull flywheel. Iyt will be a small coil with yellow and yellow with red trace.

Did you connect the second needed cable in your new engine? this is a 4-wire cable... Need an adapter 4-6 pins in some cases. This cable is needed to send the data from the engine to the dashboard.
