Take the blue toner cartridge out. Give it a shake. Put it the right way up and gently tap the ends to settle the toner. Open the shutter and blow or gently brush along the bottom edge. Close the shutter. Wipe the bottom of the cartridge and reinsert it. Sometimes it can get so bad you have to vacuum inside the toner slot. It is caused by not following the instructions to tilt end to end and tap to settle.

• Description: Main PWB type mismatch error
• Causes: Poor contact in the connector terminals.
• Remedy: Poor contact in the connector terminals. Check the connection of connector YC26 on the main PWB and relay board, and the continuity across the connector terminals. Repair if necessary. If the problem is not solved, run maintenance item U935 and return the relay board to the Service Administrative Division.

I was able to resolve the dreaded 009-654 on my c1765nfw.

• Download/install the usb driver for the printer
• Connect the printer to a usb port on my computer
• Download the latest Dell printer firmware driver
• Re-power the printer on with a toner cartridge removed
• Run the Dell firmware upgrade program, it should recognize that the printer is connected and will load the firmware
• When the firmware installation is completed, restart the printer and everything should be working again.

This solution may work on all other Dell printers that experienced the same error.
