Check the contacts for the battery. They may be rusted / making poor contact. Did you leave a leaky battery in there for some time?
If you can get an Emory board or small file in there it might help to clean up the contacts. If clean, try bending the clips up to make a stronger contact with the battery.
KODAK V610 MEMORY CARD STUCK
Try going into your setting and check the "QUALITY" settings. It may have defaulted to the maximum 6.1mp for images, and Quicktime for video. Also, you should have the option of formatting the SD card in the camera. Try these and see if it gives you a few more photos. With a card that size, you may have to take a step down in image quality to gain a higher number of stored photos.

Can you try to turn off the Flash? as this is the only part where it drains the power much to keep the capacitor charged. Try this and at the same time you can check if any firmware upgrade is also available online or some other source on the net.

I have never seen a camera where the display actually contains the words 'blah blah blah' . Are you sure that you have read them correctly ?
