My z225 zero point turn john deere shuts off when i put the park brake on. Could this be the left arm switch that is sticking?
Most small engines of this type can be maually rotated by removing both spark plugs, then press down with both palms on the center of top fan screen (remove shield if present) and rotate clockwise (preferably but no worries either direction).
If it won't budge, then try a socket wrench on the PTO clutch bolt, usually a 5/8" hex. The clutch needs to be energized to lock the PTO to the cranckshaft. Again, both spark plugs removed. Set brake ON and ignition switch to ON, then pull PTO switch ON. The PTO clutch should make a pop sound indicating it is energized. If no sound then something is wrong electrically and this procedure won't work.
With PTO energized, rotating the clutch with a 5/8 wrench will turn the crank. Verify the top fan screen is turning with clutch rotation. It should turn with little effort, a few foot pounds.
If it won't turn or stops turning before two full revolutions then likely internal mechanical failure of engine.
If you get the engine to rotate over two full revolutions, then the starter or start circuit has issues... further troubleshooting required. Comment below for further assistance.
I have a john deere z225 and it starts and my hours meter is not lit up but when I disengage parking break it dies,, if I move the arms it dies and if I engage PTO it dies, can anyone help?
t sounds like there may be an issue with the safety switches on your John Deere Z225 lawn mower. These safety switches are designed to prevent the engine from running if certain conditions are not met, such as if the parking brake is not engaged, the arms are not in the proper position, or the PTO is engaged.
Here are some things you can check:
- Check the parking brake switch to ensure that it is properly engaged. If the switch is faulty, it may not be registering that the parking brake is engaged and will cause the engine to die when you disengage the parking brake.
- Check the arm switches to make sure they are properly positioned. If the switches are faulty or out of position, they can cause the engine to die when you move the arms.
- Check the PTO switch to ensure that it is properly engaged. If the switch is faulty, it may not be registering that the PTO is engaged and will cause the engine to die when you engage the PTO.
- Check the wiring and connections for all the safety switches. Make sure they are not damaged or loose, as this can also cause the engine to die.
If you have checked all the safety switches and wiring and everything appears to be in working order, there may be a deeper electrical issue with the mower that will require further diagnosis
