Question edited for clarity. Undo the screws at the back and look for a cooling fan. There is something in the centre that looks like one. Or contact JBL direct and put in a warranty claim. The overheating issue seems well documented. If there is a quick blow fuse in the power supply unit, you might be lucky, but doubling the voltage can take out everything, PSU, Mainboard components and even including the coils on the speakers. You would have to open it up and test, or return it under warranty.

The hum might be caused by the main semi-conductor device that produces the sound. Of course a capacitor might look normal and still cause the problem. The only way is to replace the big ones in the unit.
